Woman throws out mom's old mattress stuffed with $1 million

And I used to wonder why my mother insisted on flipping through the books she returned to the library before I put them into the slot.

Something here just doesn’t quite add up.
How long had this woman been saving the money?
What did she do for a living that would allow her to stash tens of thousands of dollars a year for decades?
How is it that no one else knew about, or even suspected that she had put this much money somewhere?
And why was the mother so quick to tell her daughter to just “leave it?”
According to a CNN report,“Annat (sic) told Army Radio that when her mother realized her queen-sized bank had been tossed, she told her to ‘leave it.’”
Or the comment, "'The heart is crying but you know we could have been in a car accident or had a terminal disease,' Annat said her mother told her."
