Well, he is family to someone. Why not be happy to acknowledge history. This is not the first great thing coming out of a Singletary or Dunham descendant, read the history in the Carolina's. I am proud and honored to have such esteem. I can't understand why people are such haters when there is someone that is for everyone, but who am I to judge-Christ was done the same way. Love is a powerful thing so claim it.

These forums are interesting. I wonder why this is even a topic. Barak Obama is a "BLACK AMERICAN"; thats it, end of story. Hopefully he makes wise decisions while he's in office, come next year. My kids are biracial but I let them know that they are black; they understand that they are black; and that is their cultural identity as Black Americans. They respect all Americans and thats the way it should be.Barack Obama isn't Irish; not in the least bit! He will be Commander in Chief, he will be our 44th president, and he is 100% Black American! I wonder if all europeans think that Americans are stupid. Maybe you think it's ok to disrespect our elected officials. Whatever, makes me rethink traveling to other countries. We've got everthing here in the U.S. anyway. Why do you feel the need to add a hyphen?

Meanwhile, I have no problem claiming my ancestors, though I'm not too keen on being a cousin of our current vice-president. It's a little too convoluted for me... is Dick Cheney related to *all* of Richard Singletary's descendants?

In this day and age we are ALL globally influenced, genetically as well as 'culturally'.
