For a research project, I am interested in having some first-hand accounts of the format of a mixed marriage (Protestant/Catholic) in Ireland in the 1950s and 1960s. I would like to hear from those who had a mixed marriage. How (and when) did the clergy obtain the signed agreement that the children would be raised as Catholics: was the agreement just a letter or a more formal document? What was the form of the marriage service itself? Was it at a side-altar only in the Catholic church and early in the morning? Who attended? Did the Protestant cleric play any part?

Hi i didn't marry mix as i was not born then lol
But i do have friends whose parents are mixed,As far as i know they married in church catholic and registry office. They had to move down to Dublin though because of the animosity to their marriage.
Have no idea about this signed agreement thing that children would be raised by a certain religion. From what i know its whom ever had strongest faith the children are raised as.As if both were very religious i doubt you would find them marrying to someone of different religious beliefs.
Also there was not that many from what my grandfather and mother told me,And if they did marry it was shunned by most of community.

Family, friends and in-laws are all hard to please. It is better to please yourself for once, dear Pisces, than to bang your head against a wall. You need to relax and get in touch with your own feelings. Do not hesitate to speak up for someone you care about. Someone may try to curtail your freedom. Set them straight and do not give in.
