Montauk residents proud of their 'monster'

Full story: Newsday

Fifty years from now, when the history of Montauk is recalled -- maybe over drinks at a pub -- the summer of 2008 will belong to the Montauk Monster.

A fitting end to the thing as it was obviously on the beach unleashed; maybe the rest of the monster owners can learn from this and keep their beasts under proper restraint. Also- seems curious that this thing appears so close in time to the recent Billy Joel concerts ... just saying.

It's a dead dog that is bloated from the water. Let's bury it and stop looking at pics of dead animals.

It's the journalists at Newsday who need lives!

- Bloomberg's snack foods
- Listing what is on TCM as if it were news (Cablevision now owns Newsday).
- Linsay getting naked

A dead and decomposed pit bull washes up on shore and it's been a 3 day event?!

Can we please have some news, Newsday???

I live in Ditch Plains but did not see the "thing" there. However the other night - actually early morning- I was coming out of the Dock Bar after having a few pints of Guinness with George Watson and sure as the sun rises, there running toward the fishing boats by the docks, was another of these beastly critters.

Either it's a photoshopped creation (the shadows on the head and body are different) or it's some Plum Island experiment!

I might be alittle late in the story but were the police called to remove the animal since I am sure that nobody would touch anything in that condition. Also with all the medical advanced scientists would be able to determine what it is by DNA. If the person who found this played a hoax how stupid do they think people are if it is so easy to tell medically if this is real. In the article it says that it is the size of a cat but the picture makes it look huge. As for people saying they are not swimming anymore give me a break do you know how many other decaying things are in the water? The only other article on this story should have been when scientists properly identified the animal but who knows if that will ever happen.

This is a very sad story. Apparently someone tied the front paws together of this dog. So evident in some of the photographs. This poor animal is a dog, a pug, bulldog, or boxer. Notice the knarled ears, similar to the type of dogs mentioned here. Its fleshy snout configuration is missing, only the catilage is seen in this photo, that gives it the nose cavity we see. I feel so sorry for this poor animal; to have met such a fate. And too displayed by Newsday for the idiots to gape at, and make such outrageous comments about it.
God help this poor soul.
