from the article - "The free speech non-governmental organization Article 19 joined with an Egypt-based rights group, the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies, in a joint statement saying the council process was being repeatedly misused "to push for an agenda that has nothing to do with strengthening human rights and everything to do with protecting autocracies and political point scoring." "For the first time in the 60 year history of U.N. human rights bodies, a fundamental human right has been limited simply because of the possible violent reaction by the enemies of human rights," said Roy Brown of the International Humanist and Ethical Union." that sums it up... dont stop harassing any religion! they are all subject to inquiry, esp. those who wish (and it seems like all of them at some point) to destroy human rights...and the freedom to question actions supported as religious in nature. Censorship must never become a tool to soothe over peoples religious or political problems.

Simply STUPID. "You Tube" is an American Company; we all know Google is the owner. We have free speech in America! If the Indonesian people are smart, simply do not go to You Tube. Do not watch the movie. End of story. It's embarrasing to read the Muslim extremists in Indonesia destroyed the Dutch embassy building. What is up with that? Are they trying to tell the whole world that Indonesian people are stupid, narrow minded and support violence? Shame on Indonesia!

I just read the whole article. Yeah... I admitted, I didn't read the whole article before. This is so laughable. Part of the articles: "In Indonesia, a former Dutch colony, Information Minister Mohammad Nuh told a press briefing in Jakarta Tuesday he had sent a letter to YouTube demanding the film, "Fitna," be removed. If it did not comply, he said, the government in cooperation with Internet service providers would block the site." Ha ha ha ha ha. Like You Tube is going to care if Indonesia block the site! It's going to be Indonesia's LOST – NOT You Tube.

This way the governmetnt can keep Islamic conservatives happy that it is on their side in what is really a relatively minor issue (censorship has ALWAYS been heavy in Indonesia). The big issue is keeping the conservatives onside and furter isolating teh extremists whio also want their support. Without this support, the extremists can be more quickly round up and shot or jailed. And good riddance!

Brilliant thinking. I have forgotten... "different world" out there.

Have you been away from Indonesia for long? Of course, anyone who uses the Internet and wants a copy of the film can get it without Youtube (I just pulled my copy off a torrent server). But most of the country doesn't use the internet and, to them, this will sound like the government is really "doing something". Internet access here is really very unrestricted comap[red to most countries (in the region, at least). Let's hope it stays that way.

I haven't been back since I left. It's good to know the Internet access there is unrestricted. I think Indonesia will never be like those countries that banned certain web sites. I really hope it stays that way too.

I thought it was no big deal. I am sure it's not the thing to say there. I read the news about the Dutch embassy in Medan. I have never been there. In fact, I've never been to Sumatra island.

I think that if they can put everything else on the internet, why coddle to the ones who MAY be offended by this. Let them put it on and who cares what people think.

I was disappointed in the film myself because it was just so boringly predictable. I'd anticipated something - I don't what what - new or interesting. As it is, I just thought it was deliberately provocative. And unfortunately, lots of Muslims will be condemning it without even seeing it. Some,of course, will react violently, just proving the thesis of the film. Medan consulate protest not that big a deal - excitable students and poor policing. Medan. Pretty easygoing town really. Would think if any big problems will be in Jakarta. If you still visit here you should really make it to Sumatra, ideally to North Sumatra and West Sumatra provinces - my favourite places in the whole country.

saya nggak setuju youtube dibanned. isinya tidak akan berpengaruh apa2 terhadap Islam sebagai ajaran. sayang reaksi sebagian umat terlalu emosional. But, why in Netherlands and some other countries in Europe such as Germany, if you express an anti-Jews sentiment, you will be arrested? If you question holocaust then you could be put on trial. Double standard, and hypocrisy in western world. Again.

Double standard, and hypocrisy in western world. Again. They have a lot of guilt over the holocaust - but you will see people mocking Christianity there all the time. The key is not to respond to it. Taunting Muslims has become a great sport for idiots like this Wilder clown because Muslims always respond (and usually do so doisproportionately to the provocation). Have you even seen the film. It's just silly to any rational person. Why do youi play into the hands of it's maker and his friends by reacting?

I was disappointed as well. I expected the short movie would’ve had more interesting stuff. It made me believe this idiot just wanted to be famous without thinking about the consequences. I don’t know how many innocent people have already gotten hurt because of this idiot. I was a bit surprised as well about the incidents in Medan. I am not sure if this is true anymore, but when I was a kid growing up in Indonesia, Medan is predominantly Christian. I should probably start thinking about visiting Indonesia. It would be interesting to see everything there nowadays.

I thought the movie was going to be really scary and gruesome. As a matter of fact, I did hesitate to watch the movie thinking it was really going to pollute my brain. I think Asia Sauce is right; the movie is aimed at the people who do not have Internet access. You wrote pretty well in Indonesian. I don’t think I can. LOL. Be careful though, some might think you are talking trash or plotting something against the Muslim. Did you learn the language in Indonesia? Or are you Indonesian living in Taiwan? Hope you don't mind me asking.

Sumatra province) mostly Christian but Medan more balanced mix, I think. Also, like any big city, gets lots of people from elsewhere (particularly Java) and students from all over for university. The demo there was university students.
