We didnt need pilots then but we thought wed keep them on file just in case. So we gave them a quick sim check. The company prefers single (unmarried) pilots due to the nature of the work rosters so we chose a batch of 20. Not one of them passed! Yeh they were rated and current 737. Same surprising reasons for failure: * Almost all didnt conduct a proper and logical brief for engine out to cover the during and after takeoff. No consideration for 3rd and 4th segment obstacles * 10 crashed after an engine-cut at V1 * 12 crashed into mountains while being radar vectored downwind in IMC. A radio failure was given. It was not picked up. Reason? "we were waiting for ATC to tell us to turn base!" * Little or no knowledge of ICAO IFR procedure and aplication. THIS was woeful! * Manipulative skill generaly was ok until something went wrong * Only 1 or 2 could fly accurately without FD and AP engine-out. Only 1 made it through safely. * QRH was followed, but blindly. The all important Notes were skipped over and never read. 15 opened the APU bleed valve when the #1 engine was still burning * Every applicant had to be repositioned on final engine-out raw data because they all cocked it up first go. Only 2 at the end had any semblence of standard. * Jammed elevator landing (yes I agree it isnt easy) resulted in only 2 making it anywhere near the airport. The rest all went in. And yes they were all captains, and yes they were all recent on type! Engineering knowledge and limitations of the aircraft overall was quite good though. Semua mereka captains? Garuda pilot not guilty of activist’s murder by Nick on October 5, 2006 People will probably remember the case in 2004, of the Human Rights activist Munir, who was murdered on a Garuda Indonesia flight from Jakarta to Amsterdam. Police found out that a pilot, Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto, a flight attendent, and a member of the security services put arsenic in his food.“Chicken with rice, or fish with arsenic Sir?” There has been suggestion that Indonesia’s security service were responsble, but today, the jailed pilot was found to be not responsble for the murder. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post Pilot ‘exonerated’ in Munir murder Tony Hotland and Ary Hermawan, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta A Garuda Indonesia pilot is expected to walk free by March next year after the Supreme Court cut his 14-year jail term to only two years, ruling there was insufficient evidence he murdered human rights campaigner Munir. The court quashed Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto’s murder conviction but sentenced him to two years jail for falsifying his assignment documents. First detained in March last year, Pollycarpus is expected to walk free no later than March 2007. The verdict means the state is yet to hold a single person responsible for the infamous murder that implicates top former officials at the National Intelligence Agency (BIN). Presiding Justice Iskandar Kamil said here Wednesday that a three-member panel had voted two to one Tuesday that Pollycarpus had not been proven guilty of killing Munir, although he was guilty of falsifying a document. The documents were forged so that Pollycarpus, who was off-duty at the time of the flight, could get on the Garuda flight Munir was on board. “The primary charge of premeditated murder was not proven. That’s why the previous ruling was quashed. No witnesses saw him plot the murder,” Kamil said. Munir was found dead on a Garuda flight from Jakarta to Amsterdam on Sept. 7, 2004, via Singapore. A Dutch autopsy found a massive amount of arsenic in his body. The Central Jakarta District Court sentenced Pollycarpus to 14 years jail last December. That court also noted Pollycarpus had made repeated calls to the mobile phone of former BIN deputy head Muchdi P.R. and urged a further investigation. Muchdi denied involvement in the murder. Pollycarpus’ conviction was later upheld by a higher court.

AirAsia And AirAsia X Jointly Win CAPA's Airline Of The Year
BEIJING, Oct 28 (Bernama)-- Exeptional achievement, brilliant innovations and constant positive growth despite the global economic crisis has won the AirAsia group double Ace.
AirAsia and AirAsiaX jointly won the prestigious Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) Airline of the Year Award for 2009 here Wednesday night.
The awards were presented at the CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence presentation ceremony here, while its Group CEO, Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes was also conferred the CAPA Legend Award (Aviation Hall of Fame) for 2009.
The CAPA Awards Ceremony was held as part of this year's sixth annual Asia Aviation Outlook summit here.
The two-day event showcased airline and airport CEOs from around the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions.
"It is a big hounour, we are very proud indeed, we beat Singapore Airline, China Airline, Cathay Pacific...it shows that Malaysia can be the best," said Tony Fernandes when asked to comment on the company's achievement.

Syarikat penerbang lain telah lama berkembang MAS, Air Asia telah lama mengaut untung. Usahkan pesawat B777 Mas malah sedang menunggu ketibaan pesawat A380.
Dari segi safety standards, penumpang lebih selesa menaikki MAS atau Air Asia atau syarikat lain kerana Garuda mempunyai record yang buruk sehingga tidak dibenarkan memasukki ruang udara Eropah.
Terbaharu Batavia Air telah mengalami kerosakan mendarat. Nasib tak meletup. Indonesia patut naik tongkang sahaja dari pulau ke pulau. Indon mana tahu naik pesawat.
Malah tongkangnya pun karam. Hai nasib.
