Dear Carey Winslowe,

I am taking this opportunity to correct your statement on Timor as a Failed State. Your observation is wrong and unjustified.

The definition of a Failed State is when the state (is) said to "succeed" if it maintains a monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force within its borders. When this is broken (e.g., through the dominant presence of warlords, militias, or terrorism), the very existence of the state becomes dubious, and the state becomes a failed state.(wikipedia.org ). Now, states such as CONGO, SOMALIA, Sudan DAFFUR, or perhaps IRAQ, could be co-notated to those ‘elements’– In my TIMOR LESTE we still have the rule of LAW, surely we had a shaking start, and indeed the United Nations did underestimate the complexity of EAST Timor’s POLITICAL CULTURE, other them that, my EAST TIMOR is NOT qualified as a FAILED STATE. We the Timorese won’t let that happen!

In regards to the UNITED NATIONS, the UN should be this respected and glorified Institution. It is the only NON STATE Actor that stands for the RIGHTS of whole ‘mankind per se’ as we know it, without any partisanship. The United Nations Would function on its FULL CAPACITY if states like the USA and some other states from the European Union would LET the UN operate freely! In addition, states such USA should pay off ‘their dues.’ Did you know that the annual budget of New York City Council is BIGGER then the whole United Nations budget?

Indeed dear Carey, these examples are something to ponder about Failed States and the United Nation’s ability to act.

Cheers
Manuel

Anthony Deutsch from Associated Press tells in "East Timor may be a failed state" on The Boston News com. 6 July 2007 : "Much of the future depends on the ability of the resistance-era foes to work together, experts say.'If not, I fear for our stability and the possibility that we will become a failed state,' said Julio Tomas Pinto, a professor of political science at East Timor's La Paz University." That is the question overcoming present situation, when experts themselves are sceptic about next future with such hesitation and expensive crisis to United Nations and international community.

If East Timor is becoming a failed state it is because most of UN workers here are coming from East Europe and African countries. As we all know, those countries are still plagued by poverty and endless civil war. How can they help East Timorese whereas in fact they are supposed to be helped.

I've been to East Timor - it should be a Failed State. There is nothing worth fighting for. Good one - once again someone came up with a solution to solve the world's problems - the US should buy the world out of their problems. They are rich - they should pay for it. I have a better idea - How bought you get a job and pay for it yourself! Hats off to the Aussies for keeping that turd a float.

Geee, you are very slow

Took you almost (7) seven months to come up with that mental diarrhea!?
I have written that piece with the hope that it would stimulate your intellectual brainless side – obviously it didn’t – instead it triggered another part of your organs –“your hemorrhoids”

It is very moving to see you Americans, so patriotic about everything and anything – even in cyberspace, or in the toilet having a crap or turd as you have cited!

I am moved!

Dear Siti, I accepted that I am just onone in TL..for sure...it's only my comments that this forum is for...be smart....listen more...you will get some good ideas for your own beloved country. nagative comments do not mean that they r against TL...we've posted what we have seen and experienced..with no bias or pretening. The more comments posted that's mean TL still in their interesting, the more nagative post the more aid to TL to solve....if TL is on its own feet now...nobody care...is it true? As long as UN still there it's our business too...same as we had sent our peace keeping troop there during transistion peroid cause it's our duty to UN.

Do you meant that it must be from Aussi only to make it good....? One thing for sure..Aussi dare not to walk in the street of Dili alone after 6 pm, while others still safe. pls consider why? they love you or hate you guys? soon they will reach their patient and kick you out from their soil...just like the japaness kicked Aussi out from this land during WW2, ran back home with tails down between their legs and left only timorese fought for them alone...that's a small page of history in whAT Aussi had done to Timorese...want more? Now they are coming back with a saintlike jacket under UN's umbrella spending few hundred dollars while sucking billion dollar from Timor sea back. One reason that will make TL becoming to be a failed State is those fatty greedy politicians they are having now.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Taurus

Get involved in financial transactions at your peril under today's Lunar Eclipse, because certain people will use them as a stick to beat you with. For instance, if you ask someone to lend you money they'll either make you feel guilty about it or dredge up all sorts of past instances when their trust was betrayed. You would also be well advised to avoid any show of possessiveness or jealousy, even if you feel it, unless you truly don't care about the disastrous outcome.
