Pain clinics are just fronts for people to get drugs that they are addicted too.....they do not accept insurance and only take cash.....sometimes even a so call nurse will write you the prescription to take to a pharmacy that is in cohoots with the clinic.....it is just a sham and they are all over Houston, even drug addicts from La. come over to get their drugs here in Houston!

Did it ever occur to you that thier are people who are in severe pain, and they don't want to take theses drugs anymore than you do. But to have any fraction of what you would consider a normal life! For your information Girl with hairy arm, my wife has been suffering for 14 years. And it has been hell for our whole family, but without the medicine it would have been much worse. P.S. our pain management specialist does accept insurance. And this type of medicine is highly regulated by the D.E.A. and i doubt that a doctor can use a clinic as a front for dealiong drugs.

Brownie, I couldn't have said it best. People just don't understand the life one lives with severe chronic pain. We don't want to get wasted we're just trying to get to a level of normalcy in our lives. Thanks for sharing. Well, I've found myself out of meds for several days now and luckily my surgeon called me in some lortabs to hold me over until I find a clinic. Harley, I'm going to go look next week. Thanks for your help. I just want to find a legitimate place that is not too expensive or that will take my BC/BS. Wish me luck. Thanks guys and may you find comfort and relief from your pain. :)

I too am new to Houston and had a hard time finding a legitimate Clinic. Alot of clincs are just fronts pay $150 and they write you Rxs, I don't feel comfortable dealing with Dr.s that'll just write anything just for money and not for health reasons. I am a patient of the Pain Clinic at Hermann Mem. Hosp and I have to say that it was worth the wait to find them. I've suffered with chronic pain for 8 years now and I've had my run-ins with some crappy Dr.s who look at you as if your a piece of crap just because of the meds your on. Some Dr.s are scared to prescribe pain meds because of addicts or people who sell pills. It's things like that, that ruin it for people who really suffer. Good Luck New to Houston and hang in there Brownie64.

I cant even begin to describe the stupidity of people who bash pain clinics...some people need them, some people DONT...Some people abuse their meds, some people DONT!!! If you think that shutting down pain clinics will solve anything think again. Anyone who has never had chronic pain, or has never had to go to a pain clinic needs to get some STFU in their life because i am tired of hearing about it...but, but my son died from a drug overdose...not to be heartless but your son was probably a junkie and wanted to die, people get like that sometimes and theres nothing you can do about it...except maybe TALK TO THEM...jeez people are so dumb and they cause so many problems with their stupidity when they get involved with stuff they know nothing about

Also what is up with people from Huston going to clinics to get Vicodin? If a doc tried to prescribe me vicodin i would rip that scrip right up...that is a worthless medication, for me it does absolutely nothing, the only way I would take that crap is if i was walking down the street and it fell into my hands. That way I wouldnt have to waste my time or $$$ getting it.

there are 2 types of pain clinics. some are doc who write Rx after a 3 mintue exam, stay away from them. the others are doctors with several years of training in pain management, find this type of clnic. Call the Houston Medical Society or a large hosptial in the medical center for a referral. A pain management specialist teaches a patient to management pain, some pain cannot be releived. some pain can be relieved with methods other than pills. I a doctor wants only cash or gives you a prescription for what you wanted and not what you needed be very very careful when a doctor is arrested like the one in Humble last week, the clinic records are seized, all names are then known, the police will watch the clinic for days and get license numbers. going to a doctor like that is similar to entering a lottery where the grand prize is an all expense paid vacation in Huntsville for a few years.

I know several people who have been able to manage their pain after physical therapy. They no longer had to take their medicine.
ARC Rehabilitation Services in Houston is pretty good. Look them up.
