You need to look at the full story. Al Gore was a different person back then and was the most conservative Democrat at the time. It was shortly thereafter that Al Gore and the Democratic Party too a dive off the deep end; that is when Perry and many other conservative Democrats transitioned to the Republican party. Additionally, Perry never voted for or supported gun control.
