The 'mushy middle' hard to reach for Obama, McCain

The AP-Yahoo News poll shows that 15 percent of the electorate - people who call themselves moderates and aren't solidly supporting a candidate - make up the persuadable middle.

When I read the headline 'mushy middle', I thought it was describing Bush's brain.

This is real simple as we move from a recession into a depression. 4 more years of McSame, or time for a change? There is no mushy middle.

Why did all the previous comments get deleted? I followed the rules with a respectful request for a response from other posters who considered themselves independents, and the website chooses to delete it?? Why should anyone bother to comment? I'm going over the the StarTribune, see ya!!

Liz Sidoti???

How about an article from another AP reporter:

By Dana Milbank
Tuesday, April 15, 2008;

So much for the liberal media.

John McCain and Barack Obama both appeared before the nation's newspaper editors yesterday. The putative Republican presidential nominee was given a box of doughnuts and a standing ovation. The likely Democratic nominee was likened to a terrorist.

At a luncheon for the editors hosted by the Associated Press, AP Chairman Dean Singleton quizzed Obama about whether he would send more troops to Afghanistan, where "Obama bin Laden is still at large?"

"I think that was Osama bin Laden," the candidate answered.

"If I did that, I'm so sorry!" Singleton said.

"This," Obama told the editors, is "part of the exercise that I've been going through over the last 15 months."

McCain's moderators, the AP's Ron Fournier and Liz Sidoti, greeted McCain with a box of Dunkin' Donuts. "We spend quite a bit of time with you on the back of the Straight Talk Express asking you questions, and what we've decided to do today was invite everyone else along on the ride," Sidoti explained. "We even brought you your favorite treat."

McCain opened the offering. "Oh, yes, with sprinkles!" he said.

Sidoti passed him a cup. "A little coffee with a little cream and a little sugar," she said.

---

Singleton of course owns the PP.

Sidoti, who's embedded (insert jokes and puns here) with the McCain posse, now refers to the centrists/moderates/undecideds as "mushy middle".

As the UNBIASED reporter noted, so much for the liberal media.

There is much deleting, and unlike other forums, the moderator remains invisible and never explains why. The deleting often seems capricious, but one can only speculate.

Most people likely recognize that neither politician will venture into the realm of things that are important to middle-class working voters.

By the time the hobby-horses of the parties and media are tended to, there is nothing left for regular people.

The mushy middle may just be a manifestation of the fact that the political parties nominate mediocre candidates who share 90% of the same policy positions.

Why isn't BIG Labor's $$$ evil?
Since Obama has raised a fortune, I have yet to hear a single thing about "there's too much money in politics".
SEIU has earmarked $85 million for Obama.

Maybe it's time for the mushy middle to take to the streets and demand some real change. Obama won't make all that many changes. McCain won't make all that many changes. It's time for a revolution.

McCain has long been in the center. Barack Obama has always been a hard leftist.

So the guy that owns?(I could swear it is a Publicly Traded Corporation...I may be wrong though) the STPP and makes a profit from the Leftist crap his confused Progressive Victim Party members in Minneeeesota demand, mistakingly refered to Obama as Osama?

And this is your illustration of how the media is not 80% Leftist?

So....if their was an easy way to mistake the names McCain with Osama...then you would have no argument?

One word.....Leftists!!

The comments disappearing in this thread appear to be a systems error at Topix. We've put in a Help Desk request.
In general, deletions are made when someone takes the time to complain and the moderators see complaint as valid. Unfortunately, plenty of nasty stuff stays online forever. Less than 4% of posts are deleted. They tend to be the same people over and over again.
Most of what goes into the trash heap is posted by people who know they are misbehaving. There's no need to explain.

Blue, and not rose-colored like your own--also a bit less foggy.

Did you really think a clumsy cheap-shot like that was going to make the grade?

I appreciate your de-cloaking. If you get out there more with explanations, then conspiracy theories don't sprout. I do recall one moderator deleting a lengthy and thoughtful comment some months ago, and undeleting it when I complained. He stated (in a third party manner) that he doesn't like lengthy posts.

No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it's still a pig. Likewise, no matter how much lipstick you put on John McCain, he's still Bush.
