A wise business decision, after all, what good is a hotel on a bay that is so polluted that it resembles an open sewer at certain times of the year? Kaehou Bay, the repository of hundreds of gallons of treated water effluent, draining from the Golf Courses built above it.

Good work Kona!

I stayed there once when it was still the Kona Surf. The gardens and the waves crashing on the 'a'a lava shoreline were really beautiful. I wanted to die there and never leave. Good luck to everyone who works there.

I got married at the Kona Surf 18 years ago. We had a sunset wedding in the garden where now sits the new swimming pool. We still stay at the Sheraton because they have excellent service. I'm so sad to hear the news and pray someone buys the hotel. God Bless all of the employee's.

This could be a game. Name the place closest to Oakland that is better than Oakland. Then name the place closest to Oakland that is worse than Oakland.

Better: San Francisco
Worse: Falluja

Yep, still plenty more Kona to despoil, develop and turn into an Oakland Look alike.

Thanksfully, the free money tap has dried up and it won't be as easy for the locals in Kona to allow every square inch to be populated by highrises.

Don't worry though, cause the Military is coming to the rescue by proposing the need for their own private runway at Keahole so they can loiter C-17's over the island 18 hours a day.

I love how the comment tries to obscure the fact that Keahou Bay "is still nice" even though it stinks of fecal matter from overdevelopment. I guess that's what people allow these days -- "It's less crappy than a heavily polluted industrial city that has been abandoned by industry and it's people in order to mover overseas where the people are cheap, and the pollution standards don't exist". Nice try, but Keahou used to be paradise. For those remeniscing about the good old days, you better wake up to the crappy environment that has resulted from years of neglect, and uncontrolled greed.

You are 50 years too late. The Big Island has been marauded with development even before Statehood. Rockefeller and Kaiser were already blueprinting North Kona, The Hilo breakwall was built to prevent tsunami damage to Hilo town but caused adverse environmental effects worse than Keauhou. The military was already using Hilo and Kona airports for touch and go training. After the bayshor Apartments were built , it forced the building height restriction to no more than 75 ft.
Now if the environmentalists can find a way to cap Kilauea and Haleamaumau from spewing deadly natural gas toxins and sulfur dioxides that pollute the worlds atmosphere 10 times more than any polluting 3rd world nation, than I will stop saying that "Keauhou is nice".

Sorry..but,
1.wrong..2.wrong...
Oakland stands by itself..don't know how but it does.
its the worst..dump,slum,I had seen in years....
to top it off..all the football players that are tossed out of the better teams ends up on their team.
In fact, I spoke to a few city council members that agreed we should send our trash out of state....Oakland was the first choice....Wildman.

You could have corrected it yourself, but I really don't think a typo is relevent. I make em all the time, and there really is no way to correct spelling errors here you know.

But yeah, that typo destroys my credibility, because it PROVES that I have never been there! Yep, it sure does..

Just ask all the shops in the shopping center up the hill, oh wait, most of them are closed... Shucks

As for hating blacks, s/he hates everyone, and the world is a mirror reflecting it back.
