Oldie wrote: <quoted text> Have you been hiding under a rock for the last 8 years where Bush and the GOP (who controlled congress for 6 of those 8 years) have run this country into the ground? It took a worldwide financial meltdown (that began in the US due to a lack of oversight in the financial sector) to wake people up to the fact that Bush and Co have no idea of how to run a county. If not for Bush's incompetence Obama would have never been elected but people were/are looking for a dramatic change in direction and we got it. Whether Obama can deliver on half of what was promised remains to be seen, but if he manages to get us out of this crisis by increasing domestic spending on infrastructure while decreasing the spending in Iraq ($10 Billion a month can go a long way) then he will be well on his way to a successful term. All of you posters who just want to prove who is the biggest redneck need to get your heads out of your **** and realize that the GOP has done NOTHING for you in the last 8 years unless you are in the top 2% tax bracket. And if you are in that range what has happened to your portfolio over the last 6 months? Can't blame Obama for that (although some will certainly try) Keep the emotion out of it and do a little critical thinking on your own once in while. Very well said I like a person that is intelligent. I can not stand ignorance under no circumstances.

The tragedy of it all is that Obama, who was part of the problem (the Congress which enacted the laws that got us in this mess) is asking the same Body to understand and fix it.
If we truly wanted historic change, we should not have elected a junior Clintonian and then voted in a whole bunch of NEW Senators and Representatives. Simply put, it is OUR fault.
No new ideas, no new ideas that don't protect the unions and folks that don't contribute to this economy (some not necessarily their own fault). Have you listened to Rep. Barney Frank lately?
Getting more and more disappointed the more I hear of and about the "Change" guy.
I will give him that he speaks better than W...but it's only words.

Uncle Sammy is broke, busted, bankrupt, and these fools continue to print more and more money that is not worth the paper it's printed on. Stick a fork in America, it's done. Well done. Will the last one to leave turn out the lights in the White House. Thanks.

This is the group hit with the most taxes for all the socialist programs that the Dems have installed. The Obama plan shows that he is as "clueless" as Hildebeast. What a total mess! Those socialist programs that you speak of are a joint effort by the Dems and REPS in an attempt to clean up this mess by Bush. You know his record of failure but you are judging Obama who has not even taken office and failed at a single thing yet??? Obama clueless?? Look in your mirror!

Bill wrote: Mmmmm, so much to say but so little time to say it. Yep, have people pay on social security on 102 thousand, no payments for those making from 102 - 250 thousand, and than tax those making over 250 thousand. Now show me the breakdown on figures for these brackets. Guess the middle bracket has the most while the upper bracket has the least.
il - windfall tax was tried once before and failed and the oil companies cut back on production and the prices rose. Meanwhile, the oil companies are only making an 8% profit after they pay approximately 46 billion dollars in federal and state taxes. Now he wants to cap what a business can make and is considered excess. How about the other industries making more than 8% are they going to be next to face a windfall tax?? Am thinking of Mircosoft, utilities, retail and small business. Income Tax - yep, pander to the seniors - of which I am one - who earn less than 50 thousand and won't have to pay taxes. Now, who is going to make up the loss in federal taxes and what will be considered income?? Would investments be included in the income along with Social Security payments and pensions?? College tuition - yep, again, pandering to the youth. This was tried once before with the national service ideal and failed. How many students - doctors, lawyers, CPA's - are going to sign up for this program for four years to save 16 thousand dollars?? Guess Mr Obama does not remember his history to well when it comes to the trails after World War II. The Nuremberg trails were military tribunals along with all the subsequent trails that followed. The defendants were afforded the same rights to counsel as are the terrorist being held now. Oh, and don't forget, during the Civil War, Habeas Corpus was suspended and nothing was said than. Let's not forget, Roosevelt interned the Japanese population during World War II without any reason, and they lost their homes and businesses. And in closing, the real reason we are in the state of rising fuel costs is due to the Democrats being in bed with the radical environmentalist and their agenda. There has not been a new nuclear plant built nor a new refinery built in over 20 years due to regulations. Pres. Clinton vetoed drilling in ANWR and now the Democrats are falling for global warming and restricting coal plants being built and now focus on solar, wind and biofuels. Solar and wind will only contribute approximately 5% of our energy needs and as far as biofuels are concerned, it costs more to produce, less fuel efficient, contributes more to the carbon in the air, and has resulted in the increase of food prices. The Democrats need to get their head out of the sand and listen to the people outside the beltway. Why is it that grown-ups never learned the one lesson we teach our kids? When you are wrong admit it. In the last 40 years there have been 2 Democratic Presidents. the Republicans have ruined America in every way. There has been no progress, the rich have gotten richer at the expense of the poor. You mentioned one thing that was factual in your post. The president has VETO powers. Remember that the next time you want to blame someone else for your shortcomings.

Unfortunately they haven't the ability to exercise critical thinking. Isn't it amazing how not a single one of them has mentioned the current president, Bush? If they watch the news or read the paper they have no clue how to process the information. Never in the history of America has a sitting president been so willing and ready to pass off to the president elect. These imbeciles sitting on the sidelines making these stupid speculations should ask themselves why this REPUBLICAN is being so gracious and cooperative toward the new administration. Maybe they should ask themselves what he knows that they don't.
