And how much more good money will a mortgagor have to spend to salvage a portion of the bad?

It is not just "outside mortgage companies" as the mayor may say...it is individuals, banks, credit unions and others who have a security interest in the property of defaulted loans. There would be

And how many Property Managers are there around the area? One or two that you could trust. And will their fees increase?

If state lawmakers wants to speed things up, and get some of these properties into better hands, just shorten the time a mortgagor needs to foreclose and sell the property. Especially if the property is abandoned.

Every bank or lending company is required by law to have a property manager for each of their properties to address any issues. This only happens when they take possession of the foreclosed property. It's stil the borrowers responsibility to maintain the property till then. It should hapen that way but it doesnt usually. Also , the banks have been dragging their feet in foreclosing because they dont want to address the problems at their expense and want the towns or cities to do it. meanwhile, the trash builds up, tenants live there for free and have to fend for themselves and/or the building gets stripped of it's pipeing and wiring by theives. This whole thing is only going to get worse before it gets any better. By the way, The Town of Adams adopted this same ordinance weeks ago.

Some people and or property managers would probably be willing to pay the $300.00 fine to avoid it being reported. The fines should be imposed weekly until it is reported as requred. This could be enough to make them report it. Otherwise, the $300.00 is chicken feed.

Eminent Domain gets better and better in this city.

A copy of the ordinance and it's associated fines will be mailed to all property owners once it's approved?

It will be approved tonight,(who are we trying to kid).

We are even getting a new "building department enforcement fund".

I wonder where we will spend this money?

Just imagine: resurgent market for pine pitch and poultry byproducts, restoration of community spirit, and the satisfaction of frontier justice.

this ordinance will actually offer a sense of accomplishment.....the city can actually have a financial interest in these properties....it's more to ensure no rat infested properties take over neighborhoods.....when people like the borer's simply walk away and leave the properties to the mortgage companies we suffer...not them....try finding the mortgage company....i have tried to buy a forclosed property in my neighborhood and no one at the mortgage company had an idea of what i was talking about....they don't care.....this will add assets to the city....

I hope your right,Chris.

I've got a sneaking feeling this will be manipulated into something bad, for this city.

You have to promise to keep your eye on this one.

does anybody read this crap? what's the following paragraph supposed to mean?

"Fines of $300 would also be issued for failing to properly a local individual or property management company for the property or for each week of failing to maintain the property. All fines collected would go to the building department's enforcement fund, Barrett said"

is it too much to ask for a little proofreading? who is to blame? huberdeau? some editor?

I guess I have to accept that you make no promises.

I do not trust any of our city councillors(I guess you already knew that).

These people can't even get benches,(he's got to win that argument too).

How could I trust, that they would fight for the really important issues?

Copy editors are among the first to be squeezed out when newspapers downsize. My guess is that they have one or two poor schmucks sitting in Pittsfield doing The Transcript, The Eagle and The Banner all together.
