Islip Drops Ball
Brentwood, NY

Fix the school district and the foreclosure "crisis" will evaporate in CI. Considering that half the town is less than 20 years old, the major thing holding back the revitalization of this community is the school district. Welcome to Central Islip Schools HIGHEST PAID STAFF LOWEST SCORING STUDENTS THANK A TEACHER TODAY The unions have for many years now controlled the school board and the state, county and town have failed to take it back. As go the schools, s goes CI.

Just because nobody answers the door doesn't mean the house is vacant. There has to be a better way of doing this survey. How about checking with the post office re mail piling up?

Its no one's business to go knocking on doors and breaking the bank's chops about a lawn being overgrown. Worried about crime increasing? That's the police dept's job and when the time comes for them to sweep the place clean of human roaches, don't pull the "Stop Snitching" BS and let them do their job. Busybodies Inc, these people.

No More CI Schools

Time to break up the CI School District. They aren't accomplishing anymore than to produce an underclass of uneducated individuals who will live in poverty due to a lack of adequate education. CI is spending $26,000 per year perstudent for sub-par education. When is the state of New york going to step in and get rid of this plague on the Central Islip community?

Central Islip has more affordable housing then in any other halfway decent neighborhood on Long Island. Reality is white people with money don't want to live there. The state, county and town keep concentrating problems in this community. Move these problems to an upscale community and stop dumping them here.

150 homes out of 6000 is only 2.5% of the housing stock. Is this a significantly worse percentage than anywhere else on Long Island? Come on Newsday, how about some actual reporting of facts and contextual information. Do you think we might see a postive story about Central Islip every now and then? So much good has been done in CI in the last 10 years. When is anyone going to notice?

I really feel bad stating it but its truthful - white people don't want to move in that neighborhood since it has been taken over by gangs and illegal immigrants, most of which are 20 to a single family home. CI is also trickling into Islip North of Sunrise Hwy and the house inventory is up in that area because of people wanting to get out of it thanks to 7-11 and MS13. As desperate as I am to buy a home that is affordable I refuse to move there just as much as I refuse to live in Wyandanch & North Babylon. I rather deal with Copiague which even though the schools are not the best I have a chance there. I can deal with diversity but I can't deal with high levels of violence and property theft.

stop letting illegals buy homes with fake s.s. numbers and bad mortages. problem solved. get rid of gene murphy in islip before he ruins every neighborhood with his developement. next up -gerry wolkoff's 9000 units at pilgrim state. if the community regeneration did not work in c.i. why will it work on a bigger scale in brentwood. more homes for illegals equals crime, high taxes, bad schools, more illegally licsenced drivers, more cops needed, crowded and poor schools, but as long as this is kept north of montauk hwy, the whites that plan all this will be safe and secure. the rest of our CITIZENS can go to hell. get rid of the islip planning board. they are idiots. get rid of nolan before it's too late. and for gods sake someone stop the garganos and the wolkoffs before they sink this island in exchange for money in their pockets

Instead of letting people who are not citizens buy homes with fraudulant ways, why not let the honest American who may have gone through downsizing and and maybe short sale a home instead of letting it go to foreclosure and fall apart a second chance and let them have the mortgage as long as they have the income? There is a whole new group of people that were forced to short sale, but at least the bank got something, instead of a shell, what about those people? What about a chance for there families? Instead of 20 people to a house? that wwould help the towns in crisis.

I applaud this civic group for their efforts - they are doing the work of angels. More people should get involved in this type of work for their communities. If enough people are persistent, over an extended period of time change for the better does start to happen.

While I don't have a distribution network at my disposal, I'll try to highlight some of the better things about Central Islip. 1) Park Row, College Woods, Islip Landing, Courthouse Commons, to name a few. beautiful homes and decent neighborhoods. 2) Baseball Park and Court Complex. Well kept, constructive influence on area. 3) Recent additions of Walmart, Target, Home Depot; etc; 4) Proximity to Main Line, LIE, Southern State, Veterans Highway and Sunrise. 5) Easy access to Smithaven, South SHore Malls. 6) Legal Eagle Champions, World traveling Concert Choir. 7) Golf Course 8) Culinary Institue Program 9) NYIT and Touro College located in CI. 10) Easy access to LI Mac Airport. 11) Borders Connectquot State Perserve (Many homes with horses on east side of district bordering park). 12) Easy commute to Ronkonkoma, Melville and Hauppague Industrial/Commercial districts. 13) Affordable Housing is abundent.
