John McCain sides with personal responsibility, Obama, on the other hand, is a say-anything, pandering, opportunistic candidate.

I really don't think the bankruptcy laws s/b addressed until the credit card companies and banks are controlled a bit more in their practices of fees, charges, continual offers for more credit, crazy interest rates etc.

Someone needs to control the creditors before they they control the people who have debt.

Nothing about the bankruptcy laws that allow companies to dissolve workers pensions with the snap of a finger.

Actually, there is little in Obama's speech that helps anybody at all except a small sliver of people (troops) and even the promise to seniors is tempered with the word "may."

Bah.

Look at Obama's record in the Illinois Senate. Not once did he vote for or propose anything that he is currently talking about. He is just saying anything and everything to get elected. But most of us with a brain, know better.

So the "rich" will begin to pay their share,$250,000.00 and above, how long until "rich" equals anyone with a job. He will solve a lot of problems with a lot of money, whos money? His money when he is done with us.

"Repeatedly siding with the banking industry?" Folks, what do you think, will Obama say or do anything about the $75,000 gift Democratic Senator Chris Dodd received from Countrywide Bank? Or ALL QUIET on that one ? Remember Chris Dodd is Chairman, Senate Banking Committee. Take a good look at the legislation Chris Dodd just wrote, so-called banking reform legislation. Anyone notice it pushes off the most radioactive loans onto the federal government, that is, off the books of banks ? Sounds like me after receiving a $75,000 gift from Countrywide, Democratic Senator Chris Dodd wrote a law that's easy on Countrywide. Hmm. Blame W !

Bah.
To dsb:

Unfortunately, you unlike most other people, read it word-for-word and noticed the keywords. Most people are going to skim over the article and think, this is GREAT and wonderful. I would like to see some research, but I am guessing very few military personnel are filing for bankrutpcy with all the perks they receive after they spend their time fighting. Having worked for a personnel bankruptcy law firm before and assisting some military personnel file for bankruptcy, I was able to see the amount of money they are still receiving. And I for one can say that they are still receiving some pretty hefty paychecks. The three that I did all received a $7,000+ paycheck monthly. And because of THEIR actions on building up a great amount of debt, where forced to file for Chpt 13 bankruptcy.

In all reality, this is not going to help that many people.

Now, to rebutt all of which Obama said he would do, which if he knew the bankruptcy laws and had worked in the bankruptcy field, would know what he may propose will not be of any help.

What I mean is this. "Fast-track" - I am not sure how fast he wants this done, but it can take as little as two days to file for bankruptcy. All is reguired are certain financial documents, which can be obtained easily from your bank, employer and accountant/tax preparer or yourself who completed your tax returns. In all reality, all documents that are needed to file for bankruptcy, a person should have at their house incase their are audited by the IRS. Once you get all the documents, take your petition, documents and filing fee to the courts and file for bankruptcy. From here, you have about three to four months for the trustee to set a hearing, having a hearing, review the case, and decide whether to discharge the debt. Not much more can be done to fast track the process with the high numbers of people filing for bankruptcy. Also...keep in mind that a bank cannot foreclose on a home if a person is in the military and oversees.

Help seniors keep thier home. What exactly does he mean by this? If they piled up the debt, than they are responsible for paying it back, just like every American is suppose to do.

Protect people recovering from natural disasters...this is what homeowners insurance is for. HELLO!!

Another worthless plan propsed by Obama that will NOT help the citizens of the United States.

November can't come soon enough to rid ourselves of this buffoon Obama and his merry coalition of hard-left haters, socialists and Marxists.

Sorry, Obama. Higher taxes, more government control and weaker national security are not the direction America should be moving.

BO is on target on this one. Let the loans of the deadbeats get paid by working people. People cannot be held responsible for their actions! Its only a caring and ever growing Gov't that can provide the necessary security blanket.

Let 10% of the population work and pay taxes.(Higher taxes that is.) And let the 90% sit home, watch baseball on flatscreen TV's and enjoy their "no mortgage" home courtesy of the Feds.

Yup... this is economic brilliance by the Man!

Now Obama wants to let people off without paying their obligations. Sounds like him and the people he represents. What about the hard working people who have sacrificed their whole lives to be good citizens and pay their debts as required by society and what do they get? Obama would make it easy on his people to get out of obligations. Give them the easy way out which is what they have gotten their whole lives. Give it to me, I deserve it, cause I am Obama's people. This is BS. This man will give away the world to his people and make the middle class pay for it.
Exactly. The Obama Doctrine is to punish success and individual incentive, and create dependency on him and government through increased giveaways.

Does Comrade Obama even believe in individual property rights or does he think all land is government land to be used as he determines "for the good of the people?"

Yeah, cause the last 7 years have been great. We are sure moving in the right direction now.. especially since McCain will follow the exact same policies that Bush did. Can't wait for that. Brain washed morons you conservatives are. It's pathetic.

This is an outrage! It will hurt our corporations! If those military families are having problems because their wage earner is in Iraq instead of working at a job at home that is their fault for volunteering for the army in the first place. It's just like those lilly-livered liberal demoncrats to listen to the sob story of some soldier who's probably a liberal and against the war. Those soldiers just need to take it like men, not whine like little girls when their houses get forclosed and their wives and kids have to go on liberal food stamps. We need to stand up for the rights of the banks against these whining liberal soldier families.

This is not a Republican vs. Democratic, Right vs. Left issue. This is an issue of personal responsibility, but it goes two ways. Yes, people have an obligation to do all they can to pay their bills. But what can't be missed here is that the banking industry aggressively pushed debt and made a lot of bad business choices in the process. The current Bankruptcy law was a heavily lobbied effort by the banking industry to cover their butts on these poor business choices. I'd love to see the Bankruptcy reflect better some of responsibility the banks have for making those poor loans in the first place.
