Hopefully they are low income apartments next to Shasta school. The poor kids could really use more numbers when it comes to defending themselves against the materialistic cruel Garner Street spoiled brats.

Yeah, ain't that interesting. Chico corrupt government runs Wally World aka Walmart aka The Evil Satan, through miles of red tape and subjects them to the resident lunatics in this hick town, but its the big GREEN LIGHT to the contractors with BIG MONEY that pay them off so they get to do whatever they want. Chico government is filthy and corrupt to the core.

The have had their way for many years here and its not going to change. Our city leaders are good for that letting builders do their thing while fighting walmart. Geez you look around more strip malls pharmacies popping up all over, homes being build and being sold at unreal prices.this city still cant get their together with the disc golf thing (yes it passed) but its not final.

Big builders provide "support", union funded anti-Wal-Mart orgs provide "support". By providing "support" for candidates, they get their way.
But, all Wal-Mart does is provide a place of employment and a place for the less fortunate and others to get good deals. They must not have budgeted to "support" local politicians, therefore they don't get things approved. There are a few letters missing, but Chico isn't far off from Chicago when it comes to it's own little political machine. |
|||
|
While I agree on your "political machine" theories, you must all read the building code.
Over the last few years the liberals have allowed developer Tom DiGiovanni to completely gut our building code with a "parallel" code suited to his high density tastes. The parallel code dropped requirements for road improvements and lowered standards for building integrity. Read it. These developers aren't doing anything against the law. It's the city council and their cronies who have paved the way for this kind of over development, in their greed for revenues to pay their whacked out salaries. Yeah, Schuster's in denial. I hope he takes a bath. I had a friend who banged nails for him, he's a total asshole to work for - white trash with money. |

That's utter nonsense. Besides Tom DiGiovanni what "big builder" gave the six liberals on the Chico City Council 10 cents? Even Tommy was limited to $500 per candidate. As I remember the contribution reports he may not have even given that much. The builders in Chico spent their money opposing the 6 liberals. They recognize that the liberal’s high-density development requirements are bad for Chico and in the long term bad for them. I used to live down the street from Steve Schuster and his housing development. I don’t know the guy. Having his homes near by absolutely raised the value of the homes in the neighborhood without affecting the traffic. That’s about as much as a person can expect from developers. He didn’t have any trouble selling those homes at $700k plus. They are huge on one-acre lots. Sierra Moon is ½ acre lots but I expect the homes are still large. There are some people in Chico that still make good money and have the home equity to trade up. The choice between having Schuster’s higher end homes coming to your neighborhood and Tom DiGiovanni’s crime-ridden slums-in-waiting is no contest. No one, absolutely no person in the vicinity of Sierra Moon wants cram-in-crap DiGiovanni style development in the neighborhood. It’s Schuster’s approved development and it is not in the City, so what’s the interest? |

Please elaborate on "gutting the building code." This is scary.

"Webb Homes' Esplanade Village Apartments, across The Esplanade from Shasta School, is turning what was a quiet country road into a busy intersection. They had better plan to put up traffic signals. Just what we need, 276 apartments crammed onto 15 acres. That's a minimum of 500 vehicles entering and exiting in front of a school. Looks like there was a lot of thought put into that one.
Wal-Mart gets put through the wringer trying to expand but a project like this gets approved? I guess the Webbs have more pull in town than I thought. I wonder if those apartments will have wood stoves too?" So what is the source of this "pull". Seriously what did Webb give the liberal majority on the city council. Not campaign contributions. Just the opposite he spent thousands opposing them. What pull does he have with the anti-development planning commission? None. What happened is that his project was designed to conform to the liberal view of what development in Chico should be. Without doing that his project would never have been approved. Without 8 years of the liberal's changes to the development code would that property have been built out like the rest of the houses out there in Webville? |

Welcome to San Jose North. It used to be called Chico.

The letter writer does not like the big $400,000 to $600,000 houses nor does she like apartments......apperently if you are richer than her or poorer than her, she has no use for you.

These new homes are all the more reason we will need a second Wallmart in north Chico. I hope it comes soon because it is getting to be a problem finding a place to park in the one we are enjoying now. Hopefully they will both be putting in a supply of organic farm products and a supply of grow lights. Obama has given his approval to expand the market. Being a pot grower is a way to afford these million dollar homes.

Todays home buyer is tommorows knife catcher.

Why are you pissed off at Schuster? If he wants to take that chance in that price range that is his business.
We should be pissed off at Tony Simms. This clown runs around all over town building garbage and garbage buys his property due to the low prices. I had a 350,000+ home until Simms garbage was built around me. Now my home is lucky to sell for 250,000. Ridiculous!!!! Keep this low income crap isolated to one part of the City instead of everywhere so it doesn't destroy peoples land and home values. |

That would be walmart aka NORICO |

My apologies that would be walmart aka NORINCO

Your "leaders" will always support higher priced goods and properties due to the fact that higher prices = higher taxes.
Also keep in mind that those who live off of your taxes will often give their support towards higher prices and higher taxes regardless of the veiled excuses they make up. |
