I suppose if you leave out things such as a inevitable depreciation, shakey economy, property tax, insurance on home, insurance on loan, property maintenance, bogus appraisals, bogus inspection(inspector, realestat e listing),and fake documentation by the loan originator and the fat cat in maylasia who ownes your temporary shed)buying that new or old shangrila would be as Martha Stewart says, "it's a good thing". Of course you have that mortgage deduction, for now anyway. That's one of the cash cows that can be TARPED right out of your wallet along with everything else you've sweated your ass off for during your working life. Think I'll keep renting till I win the lottery, and can get my ass outa this shyster enriched country.

I guess your right..I like your line,"shyster enriched" somethings can't be stated better...have you thought of moving out then owning as an offshore investor? this seems to be a growing craze, not much is mentioned about this in mainstream media...it seems part of the new american dream is to leave the country and own property here from afar..look into it! it will shock you how many advantages you have here as a non-resident/citizen...i was totally floored,we are the most exploited working people in the world....imagine working your whole life to fill someone else's dream believing it was yours....

I neither know nor care about other markets, but here in coastal South Florida renting is still cheaper than buying. Especially for properties worth over $200K. The windstorm insurance alone for the really desirable areas along the coast will keep you either a happy renter or a remorseful owner. Maintenance costs for oceanfront hi-rise condos are also an absolute killer. Oh, and if you can't afford to pay cash for that condo, don't bother. Nobody wants to make loans out on these properties, nor do sellers want to consider loan-backed offers.

Buying a house is a great goal for the New Year. Make sure that resolution has some back up with a life insurance policy. You can get a quick and easy quote from IntelliQuote in just minutes. Find out how little it could cost to keep (and protect) that home for future generations. http://bit.ly/HIOvnq

even I do agree with what the post is all about that buying an apartment would be a better option but even then its not that easy to get in or buy an apartment when it comes to metropolitan cities hence the consumers feel the need renting would be a better option here...
