Full story: TwinCities.com

A rooftop garden is going to make the Hennepin County Medical Center more inviting for Hmong mothers by growing rare herbs for their traditional meal after giving birth.

Why is this NEWS???

Pioneer Press has something against these
folks(Hmong)

It's called trying to riot the mass majority.
Don't they know that this is not the 60's anymore?

This WILL bring out the Racist Idiots hiding behind
the keyboards.

Take a history lesson about who and where you came
from before inticing hatred and vulgar here.

What a ridiculous racist idea. Maybe they could put basketball hoops up too, then the African Americans can be "enticed". Then they could put up a minaret and a dome to "entice" Muslims.........then they wonder why me and my tax money left their insane urban jungle.

How about you being thrown off the roof of HCMC!!! Better yet you jump and I'll try to catch you with a "hol{e}y" Muskie net!!!

Get a life; your ignorance and racism is definitely showing. AND, please told tell us this is sarcasm or sarcastic humor like you have said in the past regarding other inane posts!

I am tired of reading your vitriolic inappropriate racist diatribes. First Amendment rights and "freedom of expression" are not the issue here but your trying to incite a disturbance or riot is the issue. Enough said!!!

p.s.; If you don't jump off the HCMC roof for your 'peace' of mind; have a nice day being civil with people!

Those neighborhoods around HCMC are scary as heck. Not too surprising since you could say HCMC is the epicenter of our Minnesota social services.

Bravo, HMCM! My husband works at a St. Paul hospital, where he and the other employees refer to the cafeteria as The Death Cafe. I applaud HCMC for being proactive in nutrition and humanitarian in its vision of customer care. Fresh food is healthier for everyone, patients and hospital staff inclusive.

I would like to scold the Pioneer Press writer who comes up with these headlines. Entice? Hmong women? I don't think "entice" is at all the word to use. We are speaking of a hospital menu and not the local Applebee's! The herbs in question, though interestingly enough part of traditional Hmong culture, are to be used in the general menu for all patients. Have I got that right?

And finally to the poster who calls himself "Idiots". So apropo your Freudian slip -- referring to yourself as you did. Unless you've left the U.S.(contrary to your ISP) or you've stopped paying taxes, you're still a part of the solution whether you like it or not. Unfortunately, by your comment I'd guess you're a larger part of the problem.

How about instead, we spend taxpayer money to prevent these women from getting knocked up in the first place? They pop out so many children, yet can't even afford to pay market rates for their housing, creating a huge burden on the taxpayer.
And the most concern that anyone has is that "they can't get their traditional post-birthing meal"? What's wrong with this picture? PRIORITIES, PEOPLE!!!
How about instead of sitting on the internet complaining about something as benign as a hospital's rooftop garden, which benefits all its patients, why don't you just take a little "me time" to look at yourself and figure out how you got to be so negative? Priorities, Nota!!!

Do you have any idea why the Hmong are here?
They fought for us, bravely, during the Vietnam War; then, when the war was over, we deserted them, leaving them to face persecution and murder because they had helped us. They became refugees because of our actions - the very least we can give them is a safe haven.
And sure, the new arrivals are dependent on public assistance - how could they not be, arriving from refugee camps with barely more than the clothing they have on. But, their children become productive members of society - I count among my co-workers and acquaintances Hmong physicians, nurses, lawyers, judges, member of our military, teachers, farmers, business owners, writers.

Darwinian;
Bravo, I couldn't agree with you more. The Hmong and Asian immigrants now coming to the USA are following in the footprints of our forebearers. In the traditions of the immigration melting pot of cultures, the USA is growing further in stature.

Their contributions as US citizens is becoming realized daily and I am proud to have these folks as friends, neighbors, and citizens.

What modern immigrant group can espouse such contributions and assimilation et cetera to the American way of life? To think otherwise, is showing our ignorances and ignobility to humanity and the American way of life!

Okay now?

The meds kick in?

Good, now go down to the corner with a ten spot, and see if someone will sell you a sense of humour, or simply put, fornicate off.

It was a play on entice, not on Hmong ya Richard, and using the racism card is a lot like a fart in who smells it first.

I hope you and Margie never loose your wit and sense of humor. I wonder if the new mother has to hike up to the roof and pick the magical herbs herself.

This sure makes it sound like it's for the Hmong only.

The hospital says the traditional Hmong post-partum meal includes steamed white rice and chicken soup with the special herbs. While most hospitals in the area provide the rice and chicken, few have the herbs.
