I have heard this expanded facility is understaffed and is little more than a bed and breakfast for clients. Is it true that attendees do not even help cook and clean-up after themselves?

Are you talking about The Ark ? That is absolutely not true. The place is great. They help break the cycle of poverty by getting people back to work. The meals are prepared by attendees family style and all of the residents cook and clean. Can't imagine how you were so misinformed.

I stayed at the shelter b/4 they got the new one.I was there for 6 mths & if it wasn't for them getting me back on my feet, and helping me believe in myself again, I don't know what I would have done. They are the most careing people. they were always there when I needed someone to talk to, they helped get me motivated to go back to get my GED & they most certainly don't just let you sit around all day & do nothing. We all had to share in doing chores & took turns cooking meals. When I first went there I was depressed, angry @ the world & had pretty much given up. I cried the day I walked into that place and I cried the day I left. I will never forget the help I got there.Jane & the staff are amazing, careing people who are devoted to helping others

I have taught Nutrition classes for clients that are staying at the ARK for over a year. The Staff is exellent in everyway. They are supportive, caring and want only the best for the clients. They empower clients, and encourage them to improve in many areas to improve their lives. My class is only one provided and is manitory because of the knowledge it provides in areas of food safety, stretching food dollars and basic nutrition and food prep. Sometimes it takes motivation on the clients part which may take time if they think someone else is responsible for THEIR "making it or breaking it" in this life. Each has rule to follow and expectations, including meals and housekeeping. If the rules are not followed the client can be asked to leave. It is a wonderful and much needed resource in the community and follows wonderful Christian standards. In my time working with the clients I have seen some wonderful miracles in peoples lives....including mine for being blessed with the opportunity to work with the staff and clients.
