Yer, sure! That's why she had the affair in the first place - cos she was soooooo sad to hurt Allison. Pffft!

I was being cynically tongue in cheek, for those who actually took my other woman comment as sympathy.

As much as this is a tragic situation, I often ask why the case was given so much attention in the first place. So many people go missing every day in this country (and others) and they don't get the same police, media and public involvement.
I wondered this same thing - why has this case been given so much media attention and police, public involvement. I'm thankful for the involvement because justice should be sought and Allison deserves no less. At the same time I do feel for the many other families who have no help or little help from the authorities and media. Each missing case/murder should be top priority!

People go missing everyday and most are found everyday. The ones that attract media interest are the ones where the police smell a rat. The first 24 hours are vitally important. The media has a symbiotic relationship with the police and are useful in alerting the public and garnering their cooperation.Be glad that these resources are available.
I don't think anyone is saying this case shouldn't be given the priority it has, nor the amount of resources. We're all glad Allison will have justice. Not all missing people are found within 24 hours and some, many are never found. This case has been given so much media attention, police involvement and public interest (because of the media attention) and I think some are wondering why. It's not that we don't want justice for Allison, it just makes you wonder 'why?'. Police smell a rat in many cases, so what makes this different - that's what many are wondering!

I'm actually wondering if the situation were a little different if authorities/media would act the same.
If the woman was a low income woman with 3 daughters in a poorer suburb and the husband was not a Real Estate Manager who didn't own 2 family cars but instead had a cheaper car and poorer job. If they both were struggling financially and the woman was not well known in society or didn't have family members, I just wonder if the media attention and public involvement would be the same.

Does it make a difference because Allison was well educated, had many friends, extended family, ballet background, good job, knew several languages etc? I'm just posing the question and wonder if social class has anything to do with public/media attention.

I think they jumped on this missing person case quickly because to the trained and experienced eye of the police it must have been obvious that something was not right, obvious that a murder had occurred.

I think the other woman is a fkn oinking pig. I wouldn't touch her for 4 months free rent or free commission. But I guess she gets that kind of appraisal all the time. I'm not surprised though, by the callibre of GBC, he's boxing well above his weight division. He mustn't be much of a real estate agent either, having swapped a rental in Brookfield for a cell in Wacol!

Re media attention and possible reasons why the media is focusing closer than they might if the family was from a "lower socio economic" background (for want of a better term). One contributing factor, in my opinion, is that GBC is the grandson of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of scouts, a story made for Hollywood, and perhaps in time that is where it will end up....?

...having said that, my gut feeling is that GBC has played the "scout grandson trumpcard" all his life, and used it to foster business connections and open corporate doors. However those connections are now working spectacularly against him in a negative way.

I wouldn't be surprised, given the reports that he'd physically hurt her before and necessitating a visit to hospital, that GBC had a "red flag" next to his name with the cops if something happened to his wife.

All it wouldv'e taken is a phone call from him (with his pathetic-sounding-please-feel- sorry-for-me voice) saying that she was "missing" to alert them to something being fishy.

Police, except in the case of children, no matter what the socio-economic status, don't as a general rule, search for someone immediately unless they suspect something.

You can't factor in the media as it would have been the police who knew first and sent searchers straight out, before the media even knew what was going on....then the media also smealt a rat (or possibly even more).

No, the cops knew something was up long before the media got hold of it.

You reckon THAT's bad...you should try posting a non-weather post on the Weather forum at Ski.com .au. The mod will delete it without further ado...even if it isn't abusive, spam, etc...he will delete it if it doesn't mention something to do with weather.*roll eyes*

Again the police were suspicous. The scratches on the face, the husband altering his story, the complete lack of involvement with media pleading for public's help. Yes there are people who go missing and are never found however the police are trained to detect lies. When the person who reports the person missing seems suspicious they follow prcesses. The media and public are used to find missing people and to rattle suspects. This case will continue to have ongoing police/media interest until the police have achieved their goal. Arrest and charge with murder not manslaughter the person involved.
