Duncan's getting facelift

Full story: News Democrat

Deborah Hirsch has a vision. When the New Jersey transplant moved to Russellville four years ago, she was surprised to learn that there were no upscale restaurants in town.

It'll never work out! People in town that wanna go out to a nice place travel to bowling green..it's not that far away, and after dinner, there is other stuff to do up there unlike Russellville! By the way, there is no parking over there, and people in this town are too cheap to eat that fancy! It'll be another place like granny's kitchen, firehouse, and many others that have come and gone, where their only customers are the old farts that sit in there 12 hours per day, drink 4 pots of coffee, and leave a dollar...50 cents for the coffee...50cents for the waitress!

I do think it will be a very nice addition to the square... the plans look beautiful! I really hate to see the owners spend all of their retirement money on the high hopes for this place though! After the new wears off, people will quit coming, even if the food is good! I would like to try it out though!

Lovely619 -- It's posts like yours that make me see why Logan County never makes any progress towards moving into the 21st Century. How about getting behind this exciting venture? Finally a place to enjoy a nice meal in Russellville without having to drive 30 minutes to Bowling Green? I'd think you would be happy about this rather than whining about the parking and the customers.

A restaurant such as this in order to service their debt and make very lil money will need at least $30,000 a week in sales. Just for argumentative sake let's say the average ticket is $35, that’s 857 customers every week. If you are able to get that many customers just where are they going to park? People won't go where there isn't adequate parking. How many times have you circled a parking lot just to get the closest parking spot?
Russellville does need more dinning places, however I firmly believe in location location location... This building is a good location for several types of business or just as the old Logan Arms building, it may be better as a parking lot to better serve the other downtown businesses. I will support it as much as possible and wish them the best of luck in their endeavor.

I wish the owners luck, will there be alcohol served? If so I HIGHLY suggest that you find another location. It is way too close to the police department to serve. One thing I have noticed about Logan County. Other than the 2 mexican restaurants every one that has served alcohol gets closed down. This makes no sense to me because people get wild at the bar at Sol-Az 2-3 nights a week, and nothing is ever said. But open a place downtown, the Police will literally set across the road and watch for people to come out so they can pull them over. I'm all for the new addition and hope that I can be a cook. I just hate to see people take a chance and get bullied out of it. Best of Luck!

For goodness sake, why do people want to be naysayers! There are parking spaces in the lot by the theatreand yes it is public parking. I know most of the business at lunch will be foot traffic and at night, there are plenty of parking spots around the square...as far as the RPD, do you think they are at the station?? hardly ever see a car there. They will not look for drunks, drunks always find them. The alcohol; will be served upstairs,(read the article) as far as how much money needed to service a debt, how do you know they have any debt??? You seem to be real experts, just encourage, don't discourage, I wish them a lot of luck and will eat with them.

I like the idea of revitalizing towm square. It was so sad to see all the businsses that closed over the years due to walmart coming to town. It's about time to have progress. Good luck with your business venture. I will definately frequent your buisness venture!!

I wish the owners lots of success! I do hope the prices of the food are within reason and I believe we have the parking because nothing else is going on downtown. A little two-three minute walk will do us good! Don't worry about the city cops either, I believe the tickets will go down now that we have a chief running for judge. He's going to need all the votes he can get.

I am truly excited in the though of having this new restaurant in town. It would be so nice to have a place to go to enjoy a meal like you get in a nice BG restaurant without the drive. Also being able to go in at lunch or right after work in your work clothes for a sandwich or maybe pizza would be great too. There might be a little problem with parking at lunch time but at night you would have the whole square to park. Wouldn't it be nice to see the town square full of cars on a Friday and Saturday night? It would great for the other downtown merchants to. There is just one thing I would like to see them do differently. That is the name. Casa de Duncans is just a little too fancy for here. Might scare some away. It needs to be a one word name like most other places, simple easy to remember. Nothing at all against the Duncan family. They are a very family but if I was spending my life saving on something I wouldn't want someone elses name on it. As far as referring to it so people will know where it is located will come by word of mouth depending on the food and service. Good Luck and maybe someone can think of something we can get in town to do after we eat.

I can't wait for the new place to open... This town needs a nice place to sit and enjoy... Parking isn't the problem... So what these fat asses around here have to walk 15 more yards to their car... Boohoo walk across the damn street and park in the theater parking lot... Second of all... If and I am pretty sure there will be alcohol served because I don't know any eatery that is Italian/French that wouldn't have some sort of alcoholic beverage... The point of the restaurant Ryan wouldn't be for you and your white trash friends to get smashed it, it would be for classier people to go in enjoy some fine dining and a few glasses of wine... Nothing that is going to put them into a ditch... Maybe with more restaurants coming in with alcohol it will boost the sales of the taxi company and they could work a deal out or something, who knows... You know... Just some ideas to boost the local economy...
just sayin

Russellville needs an upscale place to eat. Having been a manager of such a place, some of the things needed to make it are. 1. Location. 2.Good Food at a fair price, and the food must taste the same everytime you order the same dish. 3. Service must be great. 4. Alcohol must be served. The bar in such an upscale is not a place to go party and get loud and rude. If it turns into this the place is doomed. Good Luck and I look foward to the opening.
