It's terrible what happened to those kids but to blame the accident on the landlord isn't right either.

When my detectors need batteries I replace them, I wouldn't leave candles burning near anything let alone while I am sleeping.

Another quest to get money and make a quick buck!

The parents remove the batterys...and the landlord gets sued. Hows that make sense? The parents, renters need to be held to what they did to the house. The Landlord can not...and shouldn't be required to goto the house once a week...every other week and do a walk around to make sure the batterys are working. Its COMMON SENSE.

Dont sue the landlord, sue the person living in the house!

Here we go again making money from the death of a loved one. How can
money replace a life.My father was a
landlord for a lot of years and it was not his responsibility to put batteries in the smoke detectors.

If the landlord stored explosives next to the furnace and the home exploded killing someone, there is a reason to make money from deaths of a loved one. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. The landlord may be a POS and is, but he didn't contribute to the mother killing these kids with her candles. The innocent mother is going after the wrong person. And the lawyers are POS for getting involved. Well hopefully the landlord learned a valuable lesson and may some day be a contributing member of society but the mother with the candles and lawyers never will be. Now we'll be reminded of this horrible mother for the next several years.

You have got to be kidding me. I hope all the money that was given to them is not going towards paying for cell phones, wheels on the Caddy, stereos, or ipods.

MAybe they should learn a little more about common sense, like not putting a candle next to papers and clothing, But today the people don't have any common sense.

If you can't remember to blow the candles out before you fall into a drunken stupor or sleeping of a high then don't sue the landlord.

Although I feel an overwhelming sadnedd for these women, I do believe that it was thier fault the fire was ignited, and that there were no batteries in the smoke detector. As sad as it is, thats the way I see it. The landlord did not light the candles in an unsafe position. Nor did the landlord leave the kids unattended

these idiots do not and never did deserve children.

they really have the stones to cast the blame on some one else. maybe if the DETECTORS HAD THE BATTERIES IN THEM RATHER THEIR IPODS, THEY WOULD HAVE THEIR CHILDREN TODAY!

I have to say i agree with the forst 9 comments, you cant sue someone as to take the blame for burning candles,i love my candles but i love my children more! you cannot be careless with them, would you put a lit ciggarette on the floor and expect for it to put itself out? if there were no smoke alarms thats one thing, but missing batteries??? come on,i hate to see this kind of thing, and its only important after your children die?im sure the families have gotten lots of money from the community state and elsewhere,do you really need to sue,did some lawyer say hey they lost children i can make a buck! I would still be mourning the loss of my children, suing would be the farthest thing from my mind!what a sin!!!

here we go again another quest for money i guess the boyfriends account at the prison is running low she is sickening if anybody should sue its the mother of the boy that was sleeping over and she should sue the other mother because she was the 1 that killed her son not the landlord, now if the fire was caused by a bad electrical outlet fine you have a case but when your stupidity caused the fire wheres your case but i have a idea let her sue but she has to plead guilty to 4 counts on involuntary manslaughter thats fair enough, the city should sue her for reimbursement of workmans comp payments they paid to those firefighters that were hurt caused by her stupidity, oh yeah i saw her the other day driving down 4th street in bethlehem boy is she living large new clothes and jewelry and hanging with her homies but also if her case gets thrown out we all are gonna hear its because she is puerto rican save it and in fact why dont you give pepsi back the cooler that still sits in your make believe pizza shop that failed just as bad as you failed as a mother

One smoke detector in the basement is not sufficient, regardless of whether the batteries were in it or not.
I believe by law there has to be a smoke detector outside each bedroom door or at least one on each floor. The landlord should have thought about investing 30.00, that would have covered his butt.

Now we'll be reminded of this horrible mother for the next several years.
I do not know this family, but my granddaugther goes to school with the little boy that jumped out the window and survived. It is/was a very good family, not crackheads, drinkers or any of the other names they are being called. It was a horrible accident, the woman happened to fall asleep, it happens and she will pay for it the rest of her life.

There is nothing like the loss of a child. To blame someone for your mistakes in life is wrong. Even if they win can she still look at herself in the mirror every day knowing the true fault behind the loss of these lives. The families had many generous donations to help with the cost of the funerals and schould be grateful of the generosity of the community behind it. To look and milk the death of the children is another story. Where was she when the candles were burning? It must have taken awhile to the stairs to burn so she slept through all that smoke and could not get to those kids? Is this mother being held reasponsible at all? Was she home they said that her car was parked wrong and that she was outside when the fire men had arrived, did she have any burn marks? Is anybody considering that there were two others row homes and families displaced? All the money collected was anything given to them since they had lost everything from this ladies candles? Why hold the wrong person accountable for a attorney to stand in court to go after the wrong person is crazy !
