"Why did Indiana bridge collapse?"

I'll go out on a limb here to hazard a guess: there were too many people on it?

Just more proof that once people get into a group, they're idiots. Glad that no one was more seriously injured than a broken leg and collarbone.

Something is seriously wrong with the explaination provided. If a bridge is in a publicly accessible area, it is not possible to design it (legally) for a certain number of people. Like any building structure or deck/balcony structure, a pedestrian bridge should be designed for an area load. Per AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) guidelines, bicycle/pedestrian bridges should be designed for an area load of 80 pounds per square foot, plus possibly a concentrated load such as a 10,000 pound point load for bridges that will have pickup truck type maintenance vehicles on them. You simply cannot design them for a number of people, for reasons that this incident perfectly illustrates.

"Why did they allow so many people on that bridge?"...BECAUSE ONE cop can't control the mob!! What did you want him to do, shoot into the crowd? Remember the E2 nightclub catastrophe? Where people kept rushing down the stairs until they piled up like a logjam?

I would think that this is the end of fireworks at this park until they get more than TWO exit routes available.

<quoted text> I hope you're kidding. If not, you're just as dumb as the person who made the title of the story "Why'd bridge collapse". Both would surely be yet another sad example of liberals running the pathetic schools in this country.
Yes, he's kidding. It's a joke. Laugh. Don't trust yourself to draw conclusions, make decisions, or vote for a intelligent and qualified candidate. Intelligence is something wingnuts consistently fail to demonstrate.

Was there a sign saying there was a maximum number people allowed on the bridge at one time? Were the police officers made aware of the limit of people allowed?
More facts, less judgment please?

"Why did the bridge collapse?"

Answer, an engineer poorly designed the bridge. An eighty-foot bridge span that has a capacity of only 40 people is the issue. Modern, well designed pedestrian bridges are typically 8 feet wide and a pedestrian bridge should be designed to hold, for short periods of time enough pedestrians who are either walking or standing in physical contact and circulation on the bridge is restricted. This bride should have been designed to hold at least 210 - 320 people with 2 of 3 square feet per person, not the 40 person capacity, 16 square feet per person. Disgraceful!

These bridges are designed to get RID of stupid **** people who feel it is their duty to jump and try to swing such structures. Its too bad the bridge wasn't higher.

Poor design? Disgraceful? The bridge was 30 years old!! Design standards and requirements have changed in that time period. Are us engineers supposed to predict the future now? I'll bet you'll want to sue the original engineer for negligence since he didn't design the bridge to hold 80 people and bunch of jumping kids.

Thought I was the one that saw that. Pretty soon they will need to rename the website Chicago Twitter. Seems like every day I read the website I find an error that any editor should have caught. I think they must rely on spellcheck too much.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Capricorn

Mercury retrograde in your sign will cause some friction between you and other people during coming weeks. Matters that have been bubbling away in the background will come to the boil, forcing you to do something about them. Try not to overreact, nor to create a crisis out of something that's really very minor. You should also keep a strong sense of fair play and pay attention to every little detail.
