Full story: Newsday

Good effort last night, that's pretty much what you can expect out of this bunch.

Benoit Hogue are you available?

As long as they can't finish when the opportunities present themselves, this is what we can expect to see for quite some time.

Hey I made my first comment, would you like to expand on it? Ranger and Islander fans should be able to talk hockey without the chest beating, it only gets to that point once someone takes it there.

All kidding aside, I just never understood why Ranger fans come into the Isles board and stir the pot?? What's the point?

The Isles have a young team without much skill. All you can ask for is good solid effort for 60 minutes which they've been doing. What you saw last night is pretty much all you can expect without the talent. As long as they keep skating and don't roll over I'll be satisfied this year.

It's a 2 way street, there are just as many Islander fans who come on Ranger boards stirring the pot as well. Just part of a long standing rivalry I guess.

Isles are a scrappy young team and should improve with time, will the fans be patient enough to wait is the question....

Yeah I hear ya ETR, I am not one to start the trash talking.......i just reply to it lol

I'll tell ya, the patience is running thin with a lot of people. There are those fans who were fans when the team first started because Long Island actually had their own team to root for, and those people will be fans forever.

It's the johnny-come-lately's who have jumped ship. They either only liked the team during the dynasty years, or they aren't old enough to know about those days and they only know the team as a losing franchise.

If I was a run of the mill sports fan, I really don't see why I would be interested in the Isles. Mike Milbury set this organiz. back into the stoneage and left us with nothing to be excited about......

Not to mention we really did shoot ourselves in the foot with the whole Islanders persona from a marketing standpoint. We sort of contained ourselves only to the island.....since '72 lots of people have moved away from the island for a number of reasons, and things just are not the way they were back then. It was new, it was different, people were interested. We got good pretty quickly, we kept those guys interested and drew in some new fans. Since then the organization dropped the ball and hasn't come up with any way to KEEP or get NEW fans interested

Some Rangers fans might come to 'stir the pot', but more often than not, I try to be objective. Why do we come on here ? It's cause we love hockey. The more coverage the better. If there is a hockey game on, regardless of what team, I watch it.

No guarantees the Isles will get Tavares if they finish last.

Bottom line is...the Islanders actually played pretty decent last night. But we lack scoring touch. Once that comes, we wont go two games in a row with only scoring 1 goal and 2 wins since the beginning of December. Hopefully Tavares will not only provide a scoring touch but also set some other players up for some easy goals. Verteeg on Chicago,Bergland on St. Louis, Krecji on Boston, Stetuchi on San Jose, all these rookies are providing alot of offense for their squad. Land a Tavares, maybe do poor next year n land another scoring winger, and hopefully sign the right free agents that aren't 37, and hey, we might be able to land a decent spot in the playoffs. Goaltending will come to fellaz, You can rest assure DP is not in the long term plans. I don't care what his contract says...that's being taken care of.

Well that's good, I'm glad we have a place to come and talk about the sport. I agree, the more coverage the better. I love hockey too, but I just can't watch a Ranger game lol. I feel like I'm breaking the law.

You've seen it before though, you know how the arguing starts....best to not even go there.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Tavares, although with all the hype around him now....if we don't get him there will be riots in the streets.

We don't have to draft Tavares, just someone with some buzz around them that we can get excited about going to see.......Bailey is a good player, so is Okposo, but they don't have the star quality surrounding them. We need some flash

The one variable I believe is crucial in some of these players development is confidence in their abilities. When the season started - the youth were playing in the veterans shadows...maybe they didnt want to step on their toes. But now-things are changing. Frans has shown it...Bailey is starting to... Blake C is too. But the one Ive noticed the most is KO. He showed me a lot last night by coming back into the game after taking that puck to the jaw. He might be the future captain.

Personally-I feel guys like Sim and Hunter dnt fit well into Gordons system. And when you play our younger guys on the same line with them it hurts the team.

I will say this- gervais and campoli games have improved the last couple of weeks.

I think Gordon should be given credit too-the team is executing some new plays on the ice...

Oh the effort is definitely there, and so is the progress. Without much skill though, we'll see more of the close but no cigar games. At least they're bustin their a-s-s and playing till the buzzer.

I can't stand Sim, but I really like Hunter. He needs to be on a line with players who can skate well, he should just park in front of the net and grind it out....he's a pretty fearless player, granted he skates like his laces aren't tied, but I think he just needs to be on a line with guys who can get the puck to the net.

We've got lots of guys with heart and good work eithic, but nobody has the flash to attract people to them. The hockey fan notices it, but I think the average fan does not.

You've heard of the "drive for 5" right? We should dub this season the "Run for 1" (#1 draft pick)

Daily Horoscope for November 26

Sagittarius

The mood is considerably lighter as the Moon enters Aries and your fifth house of romance and creativity today; plan to enjoy a good time tonight. Make a play date with your inner child and forget about all your responsibilities for a few hours; you've been working hard and deserve time off for good behaviour. Just remember, no drinking and driving... hire a cab if you plan to go out for the evening.
