If that's the case then;
Buffalo has more loyal fans than any other city I have been to. How can a city that has never achieved a championship continue to show so much support for their teams?
From the Bills to the Sabres to the Bisons; fans always show up. True, they get frustrated and rag on their teams but they are always there.
When the Sabres and the Canes faced off in the conference championship, Buffalonians had such a hard time gettng tickets to the home games that they made the drive and bought tickets in Carolina from the ticket booth the day of the game.
Don't start talking about fan loyalty of 'bandwagonning' until you have a little more history. Based on the little history you do have, I would not be bragging about team support.
More loyal fans than any other city you’ve been to? Does that mean living in that city or just passing through? So, from your experience and extensive travels to hockey cities, the Sabre fans are more loyal than Leafs fans, Flyers fans, Rangers fans, Detroit fans? Sure Buffalo has loyal fans but they have a lot of bandwagon fans, especially over the past three years.
Having recently lived in Buffalo and other hockey cities, it’s easy for me to see why they fill their stadiums; there’s little else to do on a weekend afternoon or on a cold night. We have college basketball, our golf courses are open year round, we still have public golf and tennis courts, we can use our boats all year, parks are open, not shut down because of budget cuts. I could go on but I think I’ve already made the point. There are far more year round entertainment opportunities here than in Buffalo.
All fans get frustrated and rag, but I’ve read the Sabre threads for years now and I stand by my observations.
As for being able to buy thickets at Carolina the day of a playoff game, you’re correct. However that does not reflect on our fan loyalty. From 2001 through 2007, Carolina has increased average attendance by 30 % compared to 4% for Buffalo. The interesting trend is that from 2001 through 2006, Buffalo’s attendance was falling and was below their original average of 2001. On the other hand Carolina’s attendance was rising and fell below their 2001 attendance only once and by a meager 618, while Buffalo’s fell by 4,104. That’s quite a drop below the 2001 average attendance for Buffalo. However, after the good season in 2006, where they saw a late surge in attendance, gee I wonder why, they have jumped up by almost 1,800. If that’s not jumping on the bandwagon then how do you explain this?
In closing, I never “bragged” about Carolina fan support only commented that Buffalo sure seems to have a large number of fair weather, bandwagon fans, that’s all. Perhaps you need to go back and read my post again.
