Florida Panthers' defeat isn't a total loss

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Sunrise - The Panthers will take any points they can get these days. So there was some solace in grabbing just a single one with Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Hurricanes at BankAtlantic Center , especially since the Panthers again struggled to score and trailed late in the third period.

The only way they get in is if the Canadians don't win another game. Doesn't matter they won't go anywhere. Pathetic

Tough loss. The Panthers actually scored on a 5-on-3 when it really mattered. That alone was a miracle to see. Maybe there still is a glimmer of hope yet (assuming Montreal continues to stumble).

Another sad, boring game. Defensemen were way off.

Goals always scored when Jay B is on the ice. He stinks.

I hope this is his last season with the Panthers.

Hoghly over-rated player, who could care less about winning.

Horton, you stunk on that OT goal. You'll never learn to hit the opposing player, and that's why you'll always be soft and useless.

Here, Here!! He just sat and watched without doing a thing. He is totally useless. If Martin gets fired, amd I hope he does, Horton must be traded by the new GM for a bag of pucks.

They were playing like past Novembers under Jaques Martin. DeBoer lost his grip ? They need to play like they did vs. Leafs.

amazing to hear 790, and NHl network highlight the fact that Horton returns to the lineup. Big F'ing deal. He sucks, his is lazy, and spits too much.

Bow--way to settle with your comments. "At least we got 1 point"---screw that. You should be royally pissed that you only got 3 points out of a 5 game homestand. Come on.

Enjoy the golf in April. Again. Aholes!!!

Yes we'll take a point and we'll get 'em any way we can but, we need help. Some nights we get it from other teams, but we squander the opportunities to move forward. One thing we need is for Montreal's complete and utter collapse. The owner wants to sell the team, they fired their coach a couple of weeks ago, and a couple of guys are under criminal investigation and the team has been in a steady freefall. We can only hope their struggles could be our gain.

We deserved better since we out played them most of the game. The bright side is that we have pretty soft schedule the rest of the way out. We have 4 games against the Devils and Flyers, both of whom, we usually dominate. My confidence in this team has been somewhat restored after last night's game.

Go CATS!!!

It aint over yet,but they must score, they must fly to the net as they did all year and they must not play soft and allow the other team to brig the puck up to their side of the ice uncontested(as they used to do when guess who was the coach)
On the OT goal that is exactly what they did and Horton refused to put a body on the Panther, leading to Whitneys goal. BUT,Horton can put the puck in the net,so he has to play at this juncture...

Anyone else watch the game on Center Ice? What was that shite? Perhaps a ploy by FoxSports South so that we can actually appreciate their broadcast? I'll never complain about them again after watching last night's game.

Actually, they did play the way they did against the Leafs. Difference was that the Hurricanes aren't the Leafs. Against the Leafs a few breakdowns might not hurt you and given that they have a young and inexperienced defense, you are more likely to be able to capitalize on their breakdowns. That wasn't the case last night as the Hurricanes have a strong veteran squad. And the few mistakes the Hurricanes did make weren't converted into goals if only because the Panthers just don't have the scoring talent.

The game was not even supposed to be on TV. But that wasn't the fault of Fox. Versus is the culprit as their contract doesn't allow competing broadcasts on the nights when they have a game on their channel. The only competing games that are allowed to be broadcast elsewhere are the ones that involve a Canadian team. But the league stepped in and because it was considered an important game with playoff implications, they allowed a broadcast via Center Ice and the NHL online gamecast. But since there was no FoxSportsNet broadcast, all they could do was show what was essentially the raw feed from the arena's own camera crew, plus the radio play-by-play feed.

Usually at crunch time (read now) leadership is defined through a team effort to attain a playoff berth. Since our team has no captain, there's a hole in the leadership continuum and the choice to play a season with a leaderless group of hockey players will result in yet another bitter year of no-playoffs. Is there some reason why a captain couldn't be chosen? Were Olli's shoes so big that no one dare step up to challenge? As far as decisions go, this was not a good one. The coach should have realized this a while back. Captains hold players to a peer pressure that coach's can't. Maybe there would be no lazy and uninspired play from the two "stars" the team has. I'm sure we'll see this excuse next season when we're bombarded with season ticket sales requests...again. I desperately wish to see this franchise succeed, but they defy logic on so many levels it can cause ulcers.
