Backstrom deserved to be in the running but Thomas is deserving for sure. I don't pretend to know the legal issues revolving around the Coyotes, but Canada deserves this team much more than Phoenix. The Toronto area can easily support two teams, much as New York & Chicago can support two baseball teams.

It would be three teams as Buffalo is in play also. That is who the NHL is really trying to protect. Hamilton is at the half-way point of the so-called golden horseshoe around Lake Ontario, with TO and BUFF at the ends. The Sabres rely on Canadian fans from southern Ontario to help fill their seats. |
