Panthers just four points back

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

There have been many games Martin Gelinas has stood in front of the net, taken a beating and had nothing to show for it.

They didn't seem to be skating as hard to loose pucks this game, as they have recently ... but a win is a win and we're happy to take it (and more free pizza, too - burp!).

Thanks Cats, for keeping it interesting. Now hoping Washington finally busts its loosing streak tomorrow in Tampa - they deserve it ;-)

Meanwhile, lets also root for underdog Philly over the NY Rangers, and the more probable Buffalo, Ottawa, and Pittsburg over the Canadiens, Islanders, and Leafs. If these 5 ahead of us all lose, it'll be a dang good idle night for Florida.

You are obviously naive to think that the Panthers have a realistic shot of making the playoffs. Unfortunately, the sports announcers down here are paid cheerleaders who are told never say anything negative about their respective team. I have never seen anything like it. Let me be clear, THE PANTHERS ARE NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS! Do the math…

Yeah, the playoffs are probably out of the question....although technically they are still in it.

The last (2)games the Panthers look to be skating on tired legs, with mental fatigue from a long season and playoff pressure taking it's toll. Losing Peltonen early didn't help, as some of the players were double shifted.

Their second line defense of VanRyn/Salei continued to look terrible. These two are constantly out of position and their plus/minus of -7 & -12 continues to be the worst pairing on the team. The other two defensive pairing are all in the plus column. Whoever signed these two characters to long term contracts that will pay each of them $3M+ per season till 2010, should be shot. If they could trade them each for a 6th round draft choice, get rid of them (although, I doubt anyone will have them at any price.)

With Cory Murphy signed and hopefully Noah Welsh will sign, two defensive players will be expendable next season. Restricted free agents Semenov, Allen, and Montador can sign elsewhere, but it's my guess other teams will wait until they are released so they won't have to pay compensation. They have all played well for the Panthers this year, and it's a shame to lose them but the VanRyn/Salei contracts all but assure that 2 of them will be gone.

Its improbable but not impossible.IF we win all the games we will have 90 pts-I predict that WILL be enough for the 8th spot.It is really between Toronto and Carolina as I am giving the 6 and 7th place to Tampa and the Rangers now.

Who actually cares if the Panthers left the area? With DirecTV and cheap air fares, you can still follow the team you grew up watching. I have two sons who were born down here and neither will ever be a Panther fan. The fans down here that actually go to watch the home team, think of it more of a social event. A cool place to talk on your cell phone and be seen. They arrive late and leave early. Simply pathetic! Go Rangers!

The rangers are going alright-home before the playoffs end. Why dont you post on the rangers site or nobody wants to hear your crap there either.
Props to the penalty kill. Nice job of keeping a positive outlook panthers and taking advantage of situations. Thats what its all about. Props to Belfour and Gelinas.
They are finishing strong and omg what would these naysayers be posting if we had lost.
Go cats. Next year looks bright.

F uck you all. Ban me for that. I'm a Panthers fan, and I don't go to talk on my cell phone. I go to games, and watch the rest that I can't go to like last night. 90 points could be enough, and that's what we CAN do...WIN THE REST OF OUR GAMES. Then we need some help. So lets just sit and watch b/c this team has shown pride lately, and last night we finally caught a break with the "no-goal" call in the 2nd period. SHUT UP and BELIEVE dammit.

I've had tickets to every Cat's game the last six years. Of course I'm naive. I've stated a while back in this column that I thought it would take 91 or maybe even 92 points to get the 8th spot in the East; and the OT loss to NJ was probably the last lost point to really matter. But until we are mathematically eliminated; it makes for interesting watching; especially with all the other scores from the last couple days. Until it isn't, anything is possible. Unusual things happen in sports all the time - it's why they play the games.

This has been the best year over the last two years. 2004-2005 season Panthers had a total of 75 Pts. 05-06 they had 85 pts. 06-07 we have a chance to get 90 pts, so as you can see we’ve been getting better and better each year. Now imagine if we still had Luongo, we probably would have won 4-5 more games. I think if we keep the guys we have now (except for Stumple because he is probably the slowest guy on our team even Belfour is faster then he is) we have a chance of being a great team next year. We are one of the fastest teams on the ice but we haven’t been able to show that from time to time. If we are more consistent on playing hard every night in and night out, we have a chance on being the best team in the NHL, along side with Buffalo and Nashville.

Panther fans let keep our hopes up high and hope for the best next year.:)

You must have noticed that hockey went missing for a season because you reminded teh rest of us who are beyond that. I guess yor are also one of teh ones that watches bowling on TV.

However, IF (and this is a big IF) you were SMART enough to understand hockey and to appreciate the multiple skills the players must have to play, then you would earn the right to even like the game. Right now, hockey does not need fans that are so narrow-minded that they cannot at least allow for the fact that others can understand & appreciate the sport.

And to make the sport even better, the players are actually smarter off the ice as well. Most can even handle two or three languages. Wow, can you do that?

If you dont care, why are you posting!! I get that they wont make it but mathematically (at least for right this second) Its still possible. The whole point of beeing a sportsfan is to want your team to succeed. So, having said that, I just dont understand all the people who post bashing the ones who ( naively) believe. Thats the fun of sports my friends. And, seriously guys, all you hating posters ARE fans. You r just jaded from the constant let downs of this franchise, and thats totally understandable but dont bring down everyone else to your jaded level. Alright, later!

What is it with NYer's that comes to Florida for the weather and no income tax, then bore everybody around them by repeatedly saying Florida is not as good as NY, NY is this, NY is that. In NY this is better, and that is better......

But, to tell you the truth, we LAUGH at the transplants. We smile, nod our head yes, and may even pretend to agree...but when you leave the room, we laugh at your fantasy world. Every group of friends down in Florida has the one friend you keep around to kick around, be the butt end of the jokes, buy the majority of the drinks, keep the attention of the fat chick while we go after the hot fried, etc. And in FLA, that "friend" is a native New Yorker! You know, the world does not revolve around NY, but because you got your head stuck up so far in your rosey Big Apple A$$es, you just can't see that!

And also, get your own house in order (Rangers/Knicks/Islanders/Yank ee's A-Rod & Jeter hissy fit over jilted love in the locker room/Jets) before pointing fingers at what is wrong in Florida. NY could not have been that great for you to move down to FLA!

And from your earlier post - hockey in Florida - who cares? You came here to talk about it, must show you care on some level....it takes more effort to care enough to hate and post something here than to just ignore it.

And to everyone else...just because we HOPE, why do you find it necesary to be the one to hop on to here and trash those that are postive, go to the game and pull for their team? Getting back at the bully's that kicked you all over the playground and back as a kid? Making your candle burn brighter by extinguishing the other's around you? Or just need to kick a few others down so you feel the better person? Geeze.

The way sports should be - You root for your team, I root for mine. At the end of the game, the winner buys the looser a beer and there are no insults, pounding the chests like a man, etc. And then, you do it again tomorrow.

Peace.

Daily Horoscope for December 18

Cancer

You'll be happiest when you're with people who make you feel loved and cherished. You'll bend over backwards to keep them sweet, and will concede arguments and disputes for the sake of peace. Try not to make it peace at any price because that could be setting up problems with people who will then try to take advantage of your good nature. Co-operation is one thing, being a doormat is quite different.
