This is what happens when you have a coach\GM who doesn't fill the roster with enough capable NHL veterans to start the season. A few injuries and suddenly we have gaping holes. This revolving door of AHL call-ups is not the way to run a successful team. Martin tries to make it sound like it is necessary only due to so many recent injuries, but he's been doing the "AHL shuffle" all season long. Is it any wonder the team has no chemistry when lines and players change every game?

Quote "We're playing playoff hockey all the time, and guys are pushing themselves," Peltonen said. "Most of the time, if you want to go anywhere, there's going to be a price to pay for that. Those kinds of injuries are that price."

From what I've notice in recent games, the Panther's aren't playing playoff hockey all the time. Against Tampa, they were in the defensive zone for more than half the game. The only difference was that the Lightning have goalie problems. Imagine if they have Khabibulin or Grahm in nit. The game would have most likely had a different outcome. I'm glad that the Panthers got the win, but there were too many turnovers in the game. The Panthers need to stop making cross-ice outlet passes from the defensive zone. They need to pass it up the sides, get set up in the offensive zone, and then go to town. The Panthers should get rid of Van Ryn, Mezei, and/or Dvorak and pick up a heads up d-man and a consistent goal scorer. Playoff hockey the guys play 100% game in and game out, we'll see how they fare in Canada today and the rest of the road games.

Bad news about Dvorak. The Panthers will miss him on the PK.

If Jacques is going to make a deal, now's the time. I wonder if he's waiting for Peltonen to get healthy in order to show him off.

As it is, this team won't make the playoffs or go deep into it. A move needs to be made (though nothing involving Jokinen/Weiss/JBouw).

Hey who knows, maybe having all these fragile people out will give us a chance to win. Nah, I'm just kidding, I'm looking forward to the embarrassment on this trip.

I think the reason he keeps repeating himself is because occasionaly he forgets to take his alzheimers medication. It's sorry and and sad to see a once mighty man licking self-adhesive postage stamps, all the while he's sitting in a full diaper.
Red, if complaining about the Panthers makes you a happy old coot..then by all means..ENJOY! In fact, Jacques? You Suck!..there honey.
My dear Red, I'll be in the kitchen mashing your peas in a size 35 housedress.

I seem to remember going to the Panthers state of the team meeting last week and listening to an a-hole repeat himself over and over again when asking questions....Was that you Red??? The pathers can only keep so many players on the roster at one time. If someone gets hurt then that's what the AHL is for. This isn't football where you have 50 something guys on the sidelines to come in as soon as a guy gets hurt. We have the most man games lost due to injuries...Did you not know that?? Stop repeating yourself everyday...In fact I had to comment on another post you left about another story this morning because you're a moron. Stop the insanity and listen to Mrs. Barron. Please take your meds!!!

Why wouldnt you move Jokinen, Weiss or even Bouwmeester? Did any of them make the all-star game this year? In my opinion, all three are expendable. The only two guys on this team that are worth anything are Booth and Vokoun. Other than that, they're all either wasted talent (horton) or europeans that can't compete in this league (peltonen, jokinen).

Am I missing something? I must have dreamt that the Panthers once had a kid named Matthias who could skate like Boumeester, was willing to go to the net and scored two goals in one game. It must have been a dream because, after being sent back to Juniors, he's never been mentioned anywhere again. Not by DUMBO (who he must have really p'ed off for some reason), not by Gorten, and not by anyone who posts comments. At a time when this AHL expansion team is so short on bodies (not to mention talent) can anyone tell me why he has become persona non grata (look it up).

Are you high? The only thing of value anyone would trade for Peltonen is a bucket of practice pucks. The guy has been out for several months.

Face it. This team is incapable of competing on the scale necessary to produce consistent improvement. This no-talent team is put together by a no-talent group of management and an owner who is more interested in owning an arena and selling ads, than he is icing a winning club.

He could only be called up on an emergency basis from his junior team. He could only stay for a certain amount of games and then back down he went. Next year if he doesn't make the Panthers then I am sure they will put him with the AHL team so he can be called up at any time. I agree with you that he is what this team needed.

Making the All Star Game is not a good indicator as to whether a player should not be traded. Put Jokinen, Weiss, Boumeester, and Horton on a contending team with a culture of excellence and you will see what kind of high output these players are truly capable of.

Oh, and if you don't believe me, here is one name for ya...Huselius. Another one of so called "europeans that can't compete in this league".

Sadly, I have to agree with you. A culture of excellence is bred from a commitment to achieving the best in all aspects of the organization. From product on the ice to the creativity and innovation of the marketing. The team is not all bad, but unfortunately the extra effort by those who are trying to change things to the better are erased by the mountain of incompetence that has infected the organization. The problem is more than just an owner, coach, or set of players. It is a group of problems all contributing to the failure of this team to succeed.

Like in most companies the way to fix things the most effectively, comes from the top. Several key changes and this team could be on the right track. Sadly I do not believe Cohen has the desire nor the vision to make those changes happen.

So, for now, it is status quo.

Arguably the easiest post I've ever had a response for.

The reason why we have no culture of excellence on this team is becuase Jokinen is playing with guys like weiss, horton and bouwmeester; Weiss is playing with guys like Jokinen, horton and bouwmeester; Bouwmeester is playing with.......

See where I'm going on this one? Individually they may be strong talents (when paired with non Europeans who hustle every night). But collectively it ain't working.

Oh, and if you don't believe me, check the standings.

Btw, the all star game IS a good way to evaluate good talent in this league. Case in point, can you name any player on the All-Star game roster you wouldn't trade horton or weiss for?????

You are wrong. Before you lecture me on injures, please inform yourself. Just because some NHL teams claim to have lost "X" amount man-games due to injuries or illness doesn't mean they actually have. Man-games lost is not an offical NHL tracked statistic so teams can report whatever they want to and they can massage the figures as well.

Nevertheless, for your edification NHLMedia.com tries to keep an unofficial list and the Panthers HAVE NOT suffered the most man-games lost to injury. So far, the Oilers have the worst followed by Dallas and then the Leafs. I don't have access to the complete list, but I can assure you the Panthers have not suffered the worst injuries in the league. However, rest assured that even when healthy the Panthers use the most AHL players in the league many who would never see NHL ice anywhere else. Unfortunately, you don't get that so I guess I have to repeat it again.

Lastly, you have to be pretty daft to attend a "state of the team" meeting and expect to believe what they say there. Besides, I already know the "state of the team" without attending. I'll bring you up to speed with a little hint... it hasn't changed IN MORE THAN A DECADE.

I love these posts that even suggest trading Jokinen . Are you****crazy? Take away his 80 points/year and what have you got, not to mention he will stick-up for his teammates and fight. We have some tougher players on this team who won't even stick-up for others(Allen, Horton). Plus, one thing about Jokinen and Vokoun--they hate to lose unlike others who accept it. Look in today's SUN-SENTINEL in the inside 2nd page where people give their opinions and you will some reader blasting Martin. HOW LONG WILL THIS GO ON??
THE ANSWER IS SO SIMPLE--REPLACE HIM..YOU CANNOT HAVE A FRENCH CANADIAN COACH/GM in a NON TRADITIONAL HOCKEY MARKET

Fine, keep jokinen. But are you comfortable with him as the Captain??? What has he done as a Captain to make you feel like we have a real Niedermeyer or Messier in that locker room??? Please tell me. He's a soft European who isn't a good Captain.

And as for Jokinen dropping the gloves to fight, well, his lame attempt the other night was hilarious. Did you even watch it? He skated as far away from the other guy, then he totally whiffed on his first punch and immediately fell to the ice. If that's his definition of fighting, he should do us all a favor and keep the gloves on.
