Stevens should have been fired immediately after the Flyers lost to the Penguins for the second consecutive year in the playoffs. I think they may have gone as far as they can go under Stevens. They need a winner behind the bench...someone like Peter Laviolette, Bob Heartley, etc...

Now why would you fire stevens just because they lost to the pens ?? Didnt you say that the pens were heavily favoured to win... Are you saying that they should have won or are you saying they Choked again ??

Are you saying that they should have won or are you saying they Choked again ?? Yes, the Penguins were heavily favored to win based on the fact that the Flyers limped into the playoffs, playing .500 hockey, while the Penguins were the hottest team in the NHL. When you have Crosby and Malkin on your team, your gonna be favored as well. The reason I said Stevens should've been fired is because he just isn't an NHL caliber coach. He doesn't hold the players accountable and doesn't get the most out of them.

The flys problem is it is a mix match build,no real direction in the building department...Just grab any old big name and trade the future for a couple of years of mini sucess....It all started with the lindros give away.....think about it forsberg.....ouch

They finished the year with 99 points (tied with Pittsburgh, who had home ice because of 1 more win). The Flyers played one game over 500 in the final 10+ games, so had they been more consistent, it can be argued that they would've won the division, but it didn't happen. The Devils won the division, finishing 7 or so points ahead of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. I assume you are referring to Pronger, when you said that they trade the future and throw big bucks at aging stars. Well, Pronger is one of those special players that can play at the highest level into the late 30s. A couple years ago (back in 2007), Pronger told Brian Burke that he felt he could play at high level until he was 40. You gotta give credit to the Flyers' building process, too...Claude Giroux, James van Riemsdyk, Jeff Carter, and Mike Richards (i know you hate him) are all from the Flyers' system. Simon Gagne, the Flyers 29-year old veteran also came out of their farm. You don't need to have all of your players home grown, though. The Flyers made smart trades, when they acquired Timonen and Hartnell from Nashville. That gave them a PP quarterback (one of the most underrated defenseman) and a gritty forward who could give you 25-30 goals in a season (Hartnell). They basically stole Matt Carle from Tampa Bay and Braydon Coburn from Atlanta. Pronger was acquired through a trade, but it's more than just talent and ability that helps the Flyers...it's his veteran leadership and toughness that sets an example for the other players. You can't look past that. The main problem with the Flyers is that they are too inconsistent of a team and they take on the personality of their coach when they play. He deserves credit for taking them where they've gone, but he never holds the players accountable and doesn't have what it takes to bring the Flyers all the way to a championship.

Stevens is a good coach. I will say its hard to know what he is doing behind closed doors. I have a feeling he does call his players out. I have respect for a guy who keeps everything in house. I give him credit for controlling emery, pairing Pronger and carle together, and the development of Richards, Carter, Hartnell, Giroux, Coburn, Carle, and JVR. I have to give him credit for creating the Carcillo, Betts and Lapperiere line. He has done a lot to prove that he is capable of being a head coach in the NHL. The players are resposable for the inconsistent play of the team. Richards should be partly to blame as he is the captain.

How does he even know how he will feel, let alone how healthy he will be when he is forty ?? Apparently you havent heard how the aging process works wang .. Here is how it is wang.....as you get older you heal slower, parts wear out as you get older, more aches and pains, you cant run or skate as fast as you could when you were twenty or thirty... Come on wang, please start thinking before you speak... As you get older you should also become wiser and more prone to intelligent comments....... Why is this not working for you ???

Yes, that holds true to most players in the NHL...but there are exceptions to the rule, and guys like Pronger and Lidstrom are exceptions. Are they the players they were when they were 28? Of course not. I understand, Dev, how the aging process works and that you reach your prime at around 26, then begin your decline around 32-33. And just because you disagree with my assessments on Pronger and the Flyers, doesn't mean you have to insult me and ridicule my comments. You're not infallible either. Besides, I never called Pronger a Prophet or said that he was....all i was doing was quoting what he said from a couple years ago. He felt like he could play at a high level until he was fourty years old.

Just because you quote someone, doesnt mean you cant use that thing sitting on top of your neck to figure out that the guy doesnt know how he is going to feel health wise when he is forty.... Just a little common sense would help you know... Like I said think before engaging you typing fingers...

Your right in that no one really knows how he'll feel at fourty years old, even though a couple years ago, he felt that he could play a high level until he was fourty. Time will tell.

Hey I'm still in on that bet, but continue to talk down to me as if I'm a little kid...your choice of words seem to point that out. I thought we could talk objectively... But really, I'm still up for that bet...cause i have no problem leaving this site for a year if I lose, if that's the consequences for losing. By the way, I'm 22 years old...just so you know.

You should look at the standings before you sign up for this one.. Whenever you wanna do it is fine. The Flyers are in 9th place in the Conference right now but they've been underachieving up to thise point. They're 11 points behind the Penguins first 1st place in the Division, but they've also played 4 less games than Pittsburgh, 3 less than Boston and Wasington, and are better than teams that are currently in 5th-8th (Buffalo, Atlanta, Ottawa, and Tampa). They're also 2-0 against New Jersey, who sits in 4th place right now. Whatever you wanna do is fine with me. If you want to start now, that sounds good...or you still gonna say "your gonna have a bad feeling in your tummy all hockey season" haha...

If you take the bet now you are starting at quite a deficit to start with... If I were you i would wait and see if the flys slide even farther down than they are now.. But if you want to sign up now I will certainly take the bet.. I would hate to see you sick in the tummy all season..heeehhheee...
