Full story: Newsday

Joey MacDonald stopped all but one shot he faced that came off a stick blade, but two Edmonton goals that deflected off skates were enough to give the Oilers a 3-2 win over the Islanders last night at Rexall ...

Those who question KO need to give it a break...this kid is going to be solid.

Once he gains his confidence and plays to his strengths...which is physical...he will be a star.

The future of the Isles
KO, Bailey, Blake C, Frans, Ben Walter
and I hope Tavares

Im not sold on Campoli nor Gervais.
They need to hit the weight room.

that was a kicking motion (strudwick's goal). if it were the isles it would be no goal. when you suck as we do, you do not get the calls. like the no boarding call on smith with 2 minutes left. again, if it was the isles it would have been a 4 minute penalty...still they blew it again. my expecations are reasonable, but they should have won that game...amongst many others. I can also do without doug weight & billy jerky discussing retirement & the NHL with 2 minutes left in the game. what a disgrace. jiggs should have smashed their face in. ok, I'm done.

Did anyone notice what Weight said about Bergie last night when he was playing the puck in the corner?
Weight said- "whats he doing...nobody knows what Bergie is doing...but I love the kid"... I thought that was interesting comment.

Another pathetic effort and an awful NHL officials call goes against the Islanders. A blind man could tell that puck was kicked into the net. An absolute abomination of a botched call. The worst part is that these morons had several looks at it.

With that said, sell this awful team. They are a disgrace.

I think Doug Weight is the mush. Soon as he came into the booth with Billy and Jiggs the Isles collapsed. I knew this season was going to be rough, but this is ridiculous!

Read the rule book. If a player takes a blatant soccer kick at the puck, it's not a goal. The puck last night hit Strudwick on the side of the foot and, granted, he re-directed it into the net. But by the letter of the rule, it's a goal.
The Oilers fourth line pretty much owned the Islanders last night, and I emphasize the FOURTH line.
Oh, and Comrie still sucks.

I wonder if the translation is different in Canada. But the NHL's rule book says distinct kicking motion. "A DISTINCT KICKING MOTION is one which, with a pendulum motion, the player propels the puck with his skate into the net." It doesn't matter if it goes off the side of your foot or the front of your foot. If you kick at it, it is no goal. End of story.

You're right. It must be the translation. LOL.
I think the rule states that if it is your team who gets the disputed goal, it counts. If it is by an opposing player, no goal!

FYI - There is no mention of pendulum motions...

Rule 70 Kicking the Puck

Kicking the puck shall be permitted in all zones. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or Official.
A puck that deflects into the net off of an attacking player who does not use a distinct kicking motion, is a legitimate goal.

(NOTE) The following should clarify deflections following a kicked puck that enters the goal:

A kicked puck that deflects off the body of any player of either team (including the goalkeeper) shall be ruled NO GOAL.
A kicked puck that deflects off ANY stick (excluding the goalkeeper's stick) shall be ruled a GOOD GOAL. After the puck has been kicked, makes contact with any stick and then deflects off any player (excluding the goalkeeper) and into the net will still be ruled a GOOD GOAL.
The player who kicks the puck and has the puck deflect off his OWN stick and then into the net, this will be ruled a GOOD GOAL.
A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks any equipment (stick, glove, helmet, etc.) at the puck, causing the puck to cross the goal line.

Gee...Mister Tupp seems to fascinated by Little Girls, Homosexuality, and the Pope. I guess he likes to see more than the pathetic Oilers gush.
