Is it too late to rag on Milbury? Besides all the boneheaded trades we know and love so well, there were many second-tier disasters: Rafii Torres for Brad Isbister comes to mind. Somebody named Nabokov for JP Dumont does too.(How many goals has Dumont scored? 200? And Nabokov? None?) Then of course there was the trading of a starting goaltender, Chris Osgood, who played well against Calgary last night, five years later, for one Justin Papineau. Anyone know what happened to him? How many NHL shifts did he have?

Hey Greg,Im a huge Islander fan living in Montreal, what do you think about the Isles making a move for Ryder,he's a proven 30 goal scorer and we all know the Islanders can use some goals right now.
I don't think the Islanders can go much longer with these one goal games before the tide turns on them!! It will take it's toll on DiPietro and the team soon I think Ryder would be a good fit with Comrie and Fedetenko on the first line,Ryder could be a Heatley or a Murray type trigger man!! and i believe he could be had for a moderate asking price, maybe Bergeron and a draft pick!! Let me know what you think! |

Raffi Torres and Brad Isbister were traded together for Janne Niinimaa.
They weren't going to re-sign Osgood with Dipietro ready to play in the NHL, so they got whatever trade they could for him before they got nothing (remember, the got Osgood for nothing in the waivers draft) If you're going to really get on Milbury's case, there are two deals you need to look at: #2 - Olli Jokinen and Roberto Luongo for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha. A current 30-goal scorer and one of the best goalies in the league for a 25-goal scorer and a 15-goal power forward who never developed. They got more offense out of the two of them than they would have for Jokinen, but keeping Luongo would have allowed us to draft Heatley in 2000 instead of Dipietro. #1 - Zdeno Chara,#2 overall draft pick (Jason Spezza) and Bill Muckalt for the rights to Alexei Yashin - Even though Yashin was coming off a Hart trophy and a couple of 80-90 point seasons, having Spezza right now would obviously be better. Chara would have been good for a year, but he wouldv'e been gone because of salary inflation. Imagine though, Milbury doesn't make those trades, and our top line could have been Spezza between Jokinen and Heatley with Roberto Luongo in net. |

I also don't know why it's a topic for discussion that Comrie is playing against the Senators. Ottawa couldn't resign him because they couldn't afford it, so he went elsewhere. Not to mention he only played there for a little over 3 months.
A story is when the Maple Leafs play at the Coliseum and Jason Blake comes back, or when Ryan Smyth went back to Edmonton (NOT Long Island) |

While we're proposing trades in fantasy land, how about we offer Anaheim a first rounder and a used puck bag for Ryan Getzlaf? |

Moose. You're right about the first one, I forgot the details. Of course, that makes the trade even worse.

I agree completely. I was really pissed when they got rid of Luongo. Nothing against DiPietro, but at the time of his draft, the last thing the Isles needed was a goalie. We had Roberto, and we needed defensemen and forwards. Heatley and Gaborik followed DiPietro and either of those guys would've been a good pick-up. I like DP, but that was a REAL stupid move on Milbury's part. As far as Yashin, forget that "Monday morning quarterback" nonsense everyone likes to spew. I never liked Yashin, and when they announced at the draft party that year that the Isles drafted him, I think me and 2 other people were the only ones booing. He never had a good work ethic. |

Bottom line.....SHOOIT THE G-DAMN PUCK!!!!
get the puck on net!!! The only way to score a goal is, get this, to shoot the puck at the net!! WOW, what a concept. Shoot the freakin puck on net. Enough of this toe-dragging lazy back passes. SHOOT!!!!!! |

Milbury didnt like Luongo's personality, I remember reading that years back, and that is why he dumped him......but all these posters are right. Nothing against DP but imagine Luongo and Heatly on this team. Always liked Jokinnen, but then again I thought Parrish could develop into a 35-40 goal guy, the master of the deflected puck in front of the net. And thats why I never liked Smyth here, when Parrish did the job better than Captain Canada, who needs you? I know Parrish was gone by then, im just saying is all.

Repeat: we all know about those disasters. My point was that there were also many almost-as-bads. Again: anyone know what happened to Papineau?
