Very good article.....as a long time and loyal Habs follower I know this is a key off season talent wise for the team. Not only for next season but for the next few. With the dollars at hand they have to be spent wisely or you run the risk of a acquring a top free agent who turns into a major cap hit/bust - see Briere-Flyers. Mr. Gainey and his advisors know the clock is running out on July 1st. They have been caught in the past in missing top FAs and having to settle for 2nd or 3rd best. They can't let this happen this year. They also may need to look at some trade opportunities as they have some depth in the farm system that would allow them to make a sizeable acquisition this year. It will be interesting.

I agree completely, however once again I believe the Canadiens will come up short in the Free Agent bonanza that begins July 1st, and at no fault of their own. Gainey will once again make a pitch to the big names (Hossa, Boumeester) but at the end of the day those players will pick a city with a much lower tax rate and less (rabid) media exposure. The only way to introduce the next great talent is either via trade or at the draft. I fully expect all 10 of our UFAs to walk and it frightens me to imagine what we will find to take their place.

I still think we need a bigger commitment to defence.I think Martin will emphasize this.I look for a lower scoring team this year but better defensively.Remember,it's defence that wins cups

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Capricorn

This is a marvellous day for having a discreet word in someone's ear. You'll be able to choose your words carefully, making you very tactful and considerate, and as a result you will have a helpful conversation. This is also a good opportunity to talk about topics that are very dear to your heart, or which are usually too private to mention.
