Carolina's diving act isn't easily forgotten

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

The last time these teams played at BankAtlantic Center, Ed Belfour did a silly swan dive for referees, fans angrily threw garbage on the ice and just about every Panther accused Hurricanes players of fake ...

I agree that Carolina likes to draw penalties because they have a deadly PP. However, they don't need to dive to beat this team anymore. Here's the Carolina pre-game briefing. Allow Florida to get a one or two goal lead early in the first and then just wait until we stop playing after about 20 or 30 minutes. Game over. Carolina wins.

This story is totally pathetic. The key, as RED just stated, is to DRAW a penalty. You do this by out hustling your opponent. Maybe if we could do this for a solid 60 minutes, we would actually end up with more power plays. I don't know, just a silly thought.

If at the end of November the panthers are above .500 can we agree that we will never have to read your pathetic negative comments here...Come on you are so confident they will loose...Lets do it .. If the panthers are over .500 you never write on this board again.

why don't they save the time and money and just forfit all the games against carolina and atlanta? if we won half the series against both those teams, they might see a playoff spot, but once again wishful thinking on my behalf.

The only garbage that was on the ice the last time these teams played was the Florida Panthers.

Hey, Captain, why dont you ask the Hurricanes for video so you see how they play! Last time I looked they were in first place and leaving you bunch of losers in the dust! You are a joke, JOKINEN, like the rest of your bums who can do nothing but lead the league in excuses!! You guys crack me up-can't wait to hear your excuses if you lose tonight!

Also worth notation is Olli Jokinen has been called for more diving penalties than most of the Hurricanes roster. Just a little FYI for you.

must agree, they seem to be the only team in the league with injuries, with bad calls against them. excuses excuses excuses.

Carolina “draws” penalties because they out skate and out hustle their opponents, not because they have a strong power play or diving. This results in opposing players hooking, holding and tripping.

Good grief, if you Panthers' fans keep up the whining about so-called "diving" by the Hurricanes and all the refs being on THEIR side, you're going to start sounding like the Sabres fans!!! OMG, you don't want that!:-)

LOL, i know there are one sided fans in NC, but PDG, you top the cake if you can't see this team taking dives.
you don't have to be a fan of either team. just watch carolina play anyone and you can see it.

First off, I watch almost every Carolina game, either on Cable or in person.
Second, I have had this discussion so many times with Panther fans and Sabre fans, it’s ridiculous. Here’s the argument once again...
Fans of ANY team see the game differently from fans of the opposing team, and that goes for ALL sports! Thus the purpose of the referees; to determine in an unbiased manor, what is and is not legal. If it is a dive, in the judgment of a referee, then it should be called. Now I will concede that some calls are not made, but 90% of the referee’s calls are judgment calls. Just as in the NFL, all the games are reviewed and poor officiating is not tolerated.
So your basic argument must be that there is a conspiracy in the NHL to not penalize Carolina? Look it comes down to this, you think that they dive and I, plus the refs on the ice at the time, do not.

As an owner of the Center Ice package, there is no doubt the officiating league-wide is at an all-time low. Just horrible calls and no-calls to the point where the players don't know what will be called anymore. To insinuate that an unbiased ref makes or doesn't makes calls, all of them being correct, is ludicrous. There is no question the Canes should have been called for diving many times last year, but I haven't seen more than one or two diving calls made in the entire league since the rule was instituted. It's a shame teams like Carolina are allowed to play the way they do. It's embarrassing.

Hey, Matt:

By the time this pathetic excuse for a hockey team exceeds .500 by November, we'll all be pushing daisies.

And, by the way, those Canadiens aren't much better, either.
