Full story: Montreal Gazette

In the end, Ray Emery couldn't stop them all, though he tried and deserved a lot better than his fate.

Game 2 of the Stanley Cup final last night between the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks started in promising fashion: hard, physical and nearly riotous. But it gradually slowed and ended up as a game dominated by predictable dump-and-chase hockey.

Funny, huh? It used to be the stolid, dull Eastern Conference teams would try to slow the speedy, creative Western Conference teams.

Now the shoe is on the other (webbed) foot.

Some people love this stuff, and bully for them. But television ratings suggest there's little appetite for such conservative hockey as we wander into June, and when hardworking and chippy (dirty?) Sammy Pahlsson has become the star of the Cup final, you know the circus has definitely left town.

Come on Richard, stop posting what others are saying and give us an opinion. Do you agree with this article? The author contradicts himself by saying that dump and chase is boring and later stating that “it’s not bad hockey, and the intensity and hitting is terrific.” How about giving credit to both defenses and to both goaltenders for the low scoring, instead of claiming that low scores are the results of dump and chase? If Ottawa could just get a cycle going, they can score using that dump and chase philosophy. The Ducks are getting to the puck first and preventing this. Personally, I think that both games have been great entertainment and I look forward to the next game, regardless of what style the teams have to use to win. Just ask the Buffalo fans how well the speed game works when you get further into the playoffs. You adapt your style to take advantage of your opponents weaknesses, and this is working just fine for Anaheim right now.
