Hockey Players are not hero's. They are athletes who
excell at their sport and are well compensated for it. Good for he and his family for realizing a childhood dream.
Hero's are teachers, nurses, doctors, firefighters and some police officers to name a few. Hero's are most times under paid and over worked.
Your thoughts on this.

While this guy is living his dream it certainly does not in any sense of the word make him a 'hero'.

No, I think hockey players are heroes. Most teachers, nurses, doctors, firefighters and cops are overpaid fat union hacks who suck the system dry for do nothing for their money.

I can't stand jealous working class losers who constantly make the "athletes are overpaid - we should pay the teachers more" argument. It is old, stupid and totally worn out.

They have more talent than you do. Live with it.

anyone who says that hockey players aren't heros is wrong.
tim kennedy is living the dream
he makes his whole neighboorhood proud.
he might be over payed but thats because he has more skill than you will ever have at hockey
hes worked hard for what hes got so don't bring him down because hes being reffered to as a hero its just a word for someone whos doing something good,in this case to promote the western new york hockey group.

Athletes are well compensated for playing games on a professional level that children play. They are celebrities but are NOT heroes. Has a sports figure ever came to your aid in an emergency or taught you or your family in school? I think not. To see REAL heroes go to www.homeofheroes.com and then make the statement that sports stars are heroes.

Hero argument aside, I am so happy for him and the Buffalo area.

My four year old can't wait to meet his future sports hero...

I find it interesting that this hero debate came up...I'm a teacher but I consider myself more a role model than a hero. I'm neither fat nor a union hack (I prefer rat). I hate worrying about offending the union if I want to offer more of my services when help is needed rather than moan about union contract issues...

Dear Obviously:
I read the headline and cringed. Good for Tim. I hope he does well...all the time never losing super powers and always using them for good and giving back to his community. I'm glad that hockey players for the most part conduct themselves better than (I'm going to lump)baseball and football players do.
Now let see how long he stays in Buffalo living his dream before the BIG $$$$ lures him away.

What has he done to qualify him to be a hero, other than in the eyes of the members of his family ? Did he die in combat ? Save someone's life ? Just a kid who signed a professional contract with the Sabres, YIPPEE. There are more important people in the world to be classified as heroes. Athletes as role models MAYBE, depending on the athlete, but heroes doubtful.

Actually, a sports figure has saved my life. Once, in 1979, Sabres defenseman Jocelyn Guevremont pulled me out of a burning building.

Furthermore, I was taught to read and write by formers Bills RB Joe Cribbs.

Have you gone to www.homeofheroes.com and LOOKED at real heroes?? Perhaps you were saved by a sports celebrity from a burning building and taught to read by another. Saving someone from a burning building or accident scene is a brave act and teaching someone to read is commendable. I am sure Tim Kennedy is a decent kid but HERO??? I think not. Heroism is a selfless act of bravery usually done at a heartbeats notice. Firefighters and Police are in harms way by choice and deserve to be well paid for that service. I wish all Firefighters & Police a quiet shift and home SAFE at the end of their shift. A shift of hockey is much different than a shift at a firehouse or in a patrol car. Bob Curran of the Buffalo News wrote a Memorial Day column that explained it perfectly. "A Hero is not paid to play games that little children can play in school or in the street"

You are, quite possibly, the biggest moron I have ever encountered.

I will, however, check the website that you are so eager to have me read. Just as soon as Jim Kelly and Rene Robert teach me how to use the internet like they promised.

Thank you for your kind words MJC. I hope that you feel better in heaping disdain on true heroes. Look in the mirror to see a moron.

He is NOT a hero....a hero is someone who is in Arlingtion National Cemetary, fighting in Iraq, or who puts on a uniform ( police & fireman) everyday. Let's not get confused on the definition of "hero".

I hope that there are some good ones out there... Used to be a Bills fan, not anymore. It's something about not being able to stomach the players that turned me away from the team. I'd much rather watch college football than NFL drama and court dates. Go Sabres!
