Guerin's hat trick his first goals as Islander -

Full story: Newsday

It's not often when the music blaring from the sound system in a professional sports locker room sounds like an Irish jig from "Riverdance," but that's what the Islanders were playing last night in honor of ...

Kolzig gave up a few weak goals, which was just what the Isles need to get some confidence back. Hopefully Guerin will be more at ease. Although I'm not sure Nolan was thinking in starting Aaron Johnson at forward. What a joke!

Yet it wasn’t so funny when Aaron Johnson took a penalty in the offensive zone when the score was tied 2-2 in the third, was it? If Nolan wants to keep Aaron Johnson around, fine but do it in a somewhat logical way. The only logical scenario I can see would be to rotate AJ in as the 7th defenseman, and yes move MAB up to forward. If you are going to experiment with defenseman at forward, why would you choose your large defensive defenseman as the lab rat? Instead of scratching MAB for the second consecutive game, last night would have the perfect opportunity to see if MAB could handle some 4th line duty, if not 3rd or 2nd line duty.

It was a spectacular Third Period for the Islanders. Yes, they let the Caps tie it early on but they responded well to the pressure and produced 3 unanswered goals! I truly like the line of Bergy, Guerin, and Comrie...a lot of heart and fire! This is by far, a NEW New York Islanders team that I, as a fan for many years, have not seen in a long long time! Let's Go Isles!

Man can a day go by without the refs trying to exert a major influence of pro and college sports!

Yeah ref he guided the puck in off his FACE! Man way to go player, risk losing an eye to score a goal!

And the refs double jobbed South Florida last nite at Rutgers!

With the pushing ahead of the ball crap and the receiver pushing off of the defender!

I mean the NCAA want's to make real sure this year there are only 2 clear contenders for the BCS title!
And the old fixeroo is in for sure!

I mean who will Ohio State play next???????

It's more than just the refs it's the braintrust in the war room up there in Toronto, who might I add for some reason hate the Islanders. I think that the ref should look at the replay in a booth like in the NFL, then make the call. Who knows what kind of people work up there in Toronto, obvisoly not impartial as ref's are supposed to be. And to add to my rant.....what is up with the Isles on the redheaded stepchild channel 14? Last time I checked the devils played in NJ, so put them on that channel. Stupid Dolan, cablevisionless a-holes.

the officiating is poor all around. Even the Devils got jobbed last night - how can a player direct a puck in off the skate with his weight on it. either the war room or the video replay has got to go.

Im sorry, but the Devils are the team that ALWAYS gets the benefit of the doubt. Wed. night in Pittsburgh, the officiating was a joke. 6 straight power plays for the Devils, a questionable goal scored by the Devils of course stands, even though Gionta clearly was pushing Fleury in the net.

Face it, the officiating usually sucks.

I agree with you the Devils were so lucky against Pittsburg.
It was an unfair goal, Gionta was definetly interfering with the goaltender.

I have never seen a disputed goal go in the Isles favor. When the play was being reviewed in Toronto I knew the Isles didnt have a Prayer even though the replay proved it should have been a goal. Someone up there doesnt like us.

From the game story -- "Defenseman Brendan Witt blocked five shots, including one with his face in the first period, but he stayed in the game."

This is why he is WILLIAM WALLACE on skates!

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Taurus

Someone isn't mucking about today, and if they're annoyed about something they'll come right out with it. This means you could be on the receiving end of some zingers, but equally it means that you'll be giving as good as you get. Now, although it will be very tempting to let off steam by giving someone an earful, aren't there better directions in which to channel your energy?
