We are supposed to steamroll the door mats of the league, like the Blue Jackets. This team nothing more than a tease. I really expected them to go far into the playoffs this year base on the talent and what they have shown so far, but I question that now. Go Marlins!!!

Columbus is not a doormat. They are going to the playoffs. Doesn't look like the Panthers want to. If you expected the Panthers to make the playoffs that's one thing but expecting them to go far shows you don't know much. The talent (and determination) you are talking about is just not there.

Same old shite from the playoff chases of the past few years. Too many shots allowed, couldn't score a second goal to put the game away, blew a game in the third period that would have moved them into the eighth spot. Some things never change. They really blew it on this home stand. They need to win Monday and then hopefully get it together on this next road trip or it's going to be tee time soon.

The NHL is in a pretty bad situation right now. Looks like the eighth spot will go to either Montreal or Florida. Both teams are just gasping at making it in - meaning they will be steamrolled in the 1st round of the playoffs. There's nothing exciting about a lopsided playoff series (just ask Atlanta fans). You've really built a winner down here, JM. Great job.

At least the team is still several games over .500, which is all a few fans down here need to see success. I'm not one of them.

I can't believe that's the way they play with 10 very important games left.

Turn out the lites on this year folks.Martins reluctance to strengthen team(probably under Cheapskate Cohens direction and his spiteful personality dealing with Boynton)killed any chance of a playoff spot.Next year will be worse-Bouw played liked he is out the door 4 games ago.Signing off for this season.Kudos to Red Baron for calling this right.Ownership does not care about hockey here just money

Last week I was going back and forth watching Detroit and the Flyers and fliped back to the Panther game. My god what a different standard of play. Panthers lull you to sleep while the Red Wings and Flyers came to play. This team is going nowhere. Another dissapointment.

This wasn't about the way they played. This was about a lack of scoring ability. At the very least it's about a team that doesn't convert scoring opportunities. As for Columbus being a doormat, that's totally wrong. They are playing in a tougher division and look to be almost a lock for a playoff spot. They also have one of the best young goalies in hockey, and Hitchcock has done a great job turning Rick Nash into a two-way player.

As for the Panthers playoff chances, it's gonna come down to them, Montreal and Buffalo for that last spot. All 3 look like they have no clue how to get it done.

If this doesn't signal a death knell for this team making the playoffs I don't know what will. Boy, talk about a broken record from seasons past. Different players, different coaches, different management...same ol' results!

About the only 'star' on this team stepping up and trying to cover for all the short comings on this roster is Vokoun. Booth, sporadic at best. Horton, for a top 5 draft pick the guy will never really be a top line goal scorer. He is on this team but on most any elite team he's a second line player due to his half-ass effort many nights. To me though, the biggest joke is Bo. For years the guy, through his agent, has refused to commit long term to this franchise. Always pining about being sellers and not buyers and bringing in more talent. HELLO JAY, you're supposed to be a leader and make people better. His play over the last month has been a disgrace.

Stick a fork in 'em...

I thought the Panthers out played the Bluejackets, the panthers earned that win. But they went home 5 minutes early. What i want to know is why does this team fall apart at the end? They have new players who is the cancer that is holding them back? I dont think its JM hes not playing, and we actually have some decent saolid talent. I thought it was Horton but hes not around. So who is the guy on the bench in the dressing room or at the bar that is putting a negative twist on there fate? Is it Bou? But as for the game they played well last night but obviously not good enough for playoff hockey. I didnt watch after they took the lead, i did want to put my remote through my tv so i changed the channel.

you are right about the lack of scoring ability but wrong about they way they played. Getting outshot 17-6 in the third period at home in a game that puts you back in the top 8 is inexcusable. Too many whole games and periods where the effort is just not what it needs to be.

This team even if it manages to squeak into the playoffs is really no better than previous years. Still punchless on offense and still too weak in it's own end.

I don't think it's a cancer that is holding them back. It's a lack of scoring ability and killer instinct. I don't think they outplayed Columbus but they did lead 1-0 most of the game. Score another goal and you have two points in the bank. See how that works? pretty simple but they can't do it. Having a bunch of players who have never been to the playoffs or veterans from other loser organizations doesn't help either. The mix on this team still isn't right. I think they need to invest in two true first lime forwards and a nasty defensive defenseman.

Good post. Actually the Panthers are under .500 when you factor in the OT and shootout losses. This says to me they still haven't turned the corner. All these rah rah posts about they team heading in the right direction are still BS until they actually accomplish something.

as bad as they've sucked lately there are still 10 games left and they are only 1 point behind Montreal. there is still time.
Real disappointing home stand though only 3 out of a possible 8 points...ugh!

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Pisces

You're lacking in energy and resources today, which will soon slow you down and make you feel as though you're wading through treacle. The only way to cope is to have as many breaks as possible, and not to set yourself impossible goals that you could never hope to meet. You're also very susceptible to the criticisms or put-downs of others, but do your best to ignore them.
