Nice article David, I think a very accurate assessment of the real importance of this pick and the fact that it IS deeply connected to the fans, whether management wants to believe it is or not.

Didn't Neil Smith draft Okposo before the Wang/Smith fiasco started.

Yeah, Neil Smith did more good for this franchise during his 60 day tenure than Milbury and Snow combined.

And he was his own man - which is why Sorry Charlie! replaced him with a sycophant.

OKposo was drafted by neil smith, as stated above and you spelled Tavares wrong twice in the article. Where is greg logan? Does this writer even follow the isles?

This franchise is an absolute joke, why wouldn't you do what makes the most sense and what your fans want - Draft John Tavares. Instead, everyones sitting here debating a riot at Nassau Coliseum tommorrow night because we know there isn't any way they will ever get anything right. I'm glad I won't be there, but if I was i'd trash the place when they don't take him. Enough is enough.

The Isles will take Tavares simply because they need to sell tickets. Tavares has bust written all over him, but the feeble Isles need a drawing card. Hedman will be a an All Star for a decade plus, but he isn't going to sell tickets in the NHL's worst market a la the snow skating Tavares.

Yea Nhl's worst market whatever you say pal. When the Islanders have a good team they sell tickets period. 01-02 they soldout half their home games. Yea atlanta isn't a worse market NO NO of course not lol. You do not know what you are talking about. Just keep watching those people in suits at the garden in the 100's. F&cking Faggot from Jericho that does not even watch the ranger$ I bet. Its just cool to be a ranger$ fan right because they won the cup when you were 10 years old, correct? You did not even elaborate why you think Tavares will be a bust.

Hey David before you start to write about the Islanders get your facts straight! Snow did NOT draft Okposo, in fact at that time he was the backup goaltender! Please do not write about the Islanders if you have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever about the team. Where is Greg Logan? We don't need you writing submissive articles on the Islanders so at the end of the day you could make Charles Wang and Garth Snow happy. David, please the next time you choose to write an article about anything do some research and get the facts straight. Thank you

Fix the article - Snow didn't draft Okposo. Which means, there is NO hope. Welcome to LI Brayden Schenn!

Newsday is running a poll asking fans who should the Islanders take at the #1 spot....81% said take John Tavares. The way I see it Garth Snow has no choice. I am going to the draft party at the Coliseum tommorrow night and if any other name comes out of Snow's mouth I am running for the exits fast. There will be a riot. If Snow takes Tavares and he turns out to be a bust no one will be able to fault him. If he takes Victor Hedman, Matt Duchene or makes a trade and Tavares turns out to be the next Sidney Crosby then Snow will be fired. He is stuck...he has no choice, right or wrong the pick is Tavares.

He will take Tavaras... everyone settle down!

From a hockey sense, a public relations sense and a economic sense there really is no other choice... Tavaras will get people interested again, sell alot of tickets and score goals in bunches!

This guy is Mike Bossy all over again... He wasn't big or fast, but he was always in the right place @ the right time and hardly ever missed the back of the net!

Sorry, kids, but it's not going to be Tavares. He doesn't fit the Isle's current style of play.
Look for Hedman or Duchene, or perhaps a wheel and deal to land them both.

Very astute observation. I have been thinking the same thing for a while now. However, Snow is not going to bow to the pressure of what the fans want. With that being said he wants to build what he and the scouts believe to be a winning team. As much as I don't want to admit this, that would probably mean VH as it is harder to find GOOD Dmen than it is to get goals. However, this team needs Tavares if for nothing else, peace of mind for the fans that are hanging by a thread. People have to remember that Snow is not Mike and he doesn't plan on trading away our prospects for questionable talent. He actually wants to build a team. Look at all the draft picks he has amassed through the first 3 rounds of last year and this year's draft! Success in numbers.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Libra

If someone owes you money and you're beginning to think that you'll never get it back, this is an excellent day to chase them up. They may not cave in straightaway but at least you'll have had your say and done what you can. Watch out for a tendency to lose your temper, because although this could be quite dramatic if you're usually the soul of equanimity it could work against you if you become aggressive or unpleasant.
