The Flyers 3-2 win over the Islanders brings them to 4 straight wins and puts them at 4-3-3 through the month of October, after starting the season 0-3-3.
Carter had two goals, Gagne had two assists tonight, and Knuble scored, bring his goal-scoring streak to 4 games. Richards has 13 assists and is currently tied for 4th in points(as of 11:24pm, which is subject to change) at 13 points, 3 behind Alexander Semin. Carter is tied for second in goals with 8, behind Thomas Vanek who has 9. The Flyers Goals For is now at 3.9/game or 39 goals in 10 games. Their PP is generating at 22.9%, while their PK is below 80% effective. sources: NHL.com -team and individual statistics The Flyers played an okay game tonight against the Islanders. They got the win in overtime, but the Isles looked a lot hungrier than the Flyers did, as Philly was getting beat among the boards and to loose pucks, especially during the third period. They're fortunate that Carter is hot right now and bailed them out in OT, especially given that the Isles had 2 minutes of 4-on-3 hockey to start OT, and if no one scored after 5 minutes, they would have risked losing in the shootout, since we all know how bad the Flyers are in that regard. Now, they start their November schedule and start against Edmonton on Sunday. After that, they go on to play Ottawa, Tampa, the Isles again, Pittsburgh, and Montreal. If they can win 4 of those 6 games, I'd be pleased. I would accept losses to Montreal and Tampa Bay or Pittsburgh. However, I'd like to see them go 5-1 over the next six games, only losing to the Habs, since they're playing better now and they need to be able to beat Pittsburgh, especially with Gonchar and Whitney on LTIR. Tampa is an intersting matchup because they've been struggling this season, yet, they always give the Flyers problems, it seems. Last season the teams split the season series 2-2, but without Torterella behind the bench, the Flyers could have an easier time with the Bolts, especially considering all their roster changes. Time will tell, but in the mean time, let's focus on Edmonton. |
