Flyers sent packing again by Penguins

Full story: The Morning Call

Sidney Crosby stood near center ice, answering questions from a television reporter while a few lingering fans berated him.

Absolutely pathetic. When a team is as bad as the Flyers were fundamentally, that comes from coaching. Way too many turnovers in the neutral zone, couldn't pass the puck more than 5 feet, lack of hustle.....

Sorry, John Stevens, but you're fired!

The Flyers have some young stars, but unfortunately, Pittsburgh has even younger SUPERSTARS. The Flyers will never win a Cup with the talent that Pittsburgh and Washington currently have in their lineups. But as long as the Flyers win most of the fights, the majority of Flyer fans will be satisfied.

I missed the beginning of the game because I was at a birthday party, my son was keeping me updated via text, when we left the party I was disheartened to be heading home with my Pens in the hole 3-0.

By the time we got home it was 3-3! My son happily texting me with exclamation points and play by play of the fights. It was an intense 3rd period, I was wringing my hands nervously the whole time. My Pens didn't disappoint.

Since I didn't see the first part of the game, I don't know exactly what sparked the turn in momentum, but wow.

So now my Pens and my hubby's Bruins are on to the next round, we just have to see if my son's Devils can get there too.

Can't wait to welcome the Phantoms to the Lehigh Valley. At least they won't complicate parking with a playoff schedule either. They went packing when they were swept by the Hershey Bears.

The momentum-shift, most people feel, was the Talbot-Carcillo fight. Talbot was nearly murdered, but his courage sparked the team. If he was willing to sacrifice himself that way, then there wasn't anything the rest of the team wasn't willing to do from that point on. It's lucky that Philly will always have psychotic goons as stupid as Carcillo. Taking the bait when his team is up 3-0. LMAO!!

Sacrificing his face to break Carcillo's hand?

Everybody points to the fight, but I just don't see it. Talbot might have gotten one good shot in, that's it. If Talbot had killed Carcillo, I could see it as a turning point.

Lack of coaching is what killed the Flyers in this series. The Pens mostly seemed to be a step ahead of the Flyers. The Flyers could not control the puck to save their lives. One power play that the Flyers had, the Pens spent more time in the Flyers offensive zone and the Flyers were on the Power Play, not the Pens!!!

Lack of fundamentals and stupid penalties come down to coaching. Period. Sorry Stevens, but it's time for you to go...

Ultimately, of course, a fight can only do so much, and you're quite right about what won the game for the Pens. But winning a fight isn't the only way to generate momentum. When a not-especially-tough guy like Talbot goes up two weight classes against a psycho like that, it has the effect of waking up teammates. Once the wake-up happened, the rest depended on good old-fashioned relentless offensive pressure.

I always thought Stevens seemed like a good X's and O's guy, but I've never seen a coach in any sport who whined so much to the media after losses.

He may be an X's and O's guy, but if your team cannot execute the simplest of fundamentals, that goes on Stevens.

How many turnovers did we have in the neutral zone? I swear, it felt like the Penguins defensive blue line was a wall. Announcers talk about the ice "tilting" and that ice was tilted for 1/2 of the 2nd period and all of the 3rd period.

I'll tell you, I love philly fans...look how quickly you turn on your team when they lose...when only a few days ago they were all viewed as heroes when the Flyers won game five and you thought you were going to win the Stanley Cup. Granted, Stevens may not be the best coach, and he is a royal whiner (I love how this is overlooked and how all philly fans call Crosby a whiner), but he coached your team from last place to the conference finals last year and to the playoffs this year. How quickly you throw your own team under the bus...Carter, Richards, Biron, and Briere. You guys are bs joke...Loyal fans down there in Philly. Ignorant, crap talking doesn't make you loyal. All Philly fans take their bs that they focus on every other team throughout the year and when they lose, they turn that bs on themselves. Face it, you lost to the better team...don't throw your team under the bus because of it.

I never thought this team was stanley cup ready especially at the end of the year! These so-called big stars who do it all during the regular(WORTHLESS) SEASON ALWAYS!!! seem to gag in the playoffs! Last year for philly was a FLUKE! Yep pittsburgh WAS the better team (THATS NOT SAYING MUCH BECAUSE YOUR DEFENSE SUCKS ALSO...) Again if the penguins play a western team with any defense (detroit,anaheim,vancouver.. the same RESULT as last year will happen) So we shall see penguins when you play a team with a REAL defense im sure you will WADDLE away just like LAST YEAR :)

And if we waddle away, you know what we beat the Flyers and in my book that's almost as good as the Stanley Cup. I take grief on a regular basis from Flyers fans who love to shoot their mouth off to me. Funny thing is I never talk smack. I've learned over the years that it's best to let the games be played and a big grin when it's all said and done.:D

Yes, Flyers fans are quite vocal that there is no talent anywhere else in the league. I've heard Flyers fans bash Gretzky, Lemeiux, Brodeur, Hasek, etc. Apparently, if they play for another team, all players s*ck. Funny how that works.

What a stupid comparison. Crosby and Ovechkin are completely different players. Ovechkin is an amazing scorer, Crosby can score but is much more focused on dishing out assists (and is much better at that than Ovechkin). Ovechkin is a showman with an outsized ego; Crosby is the ultimate team guy. I'd challenge you to find any examples of Crosby being a "wuss." He plays hard ALL of the time, he fights when he has to stick up for teammates, he drives hard to the cage in every game. Your image of Crosby is just part of the Philly fan's mythology and has no basis (at all) in reality. But hey, cling to hating Crosby since it's all you have to cling to. That and wondering which skill player you'll trade away next to get another brain-damaged fool like Carcillo. Have a fun offseason.

Actually the only player I've ever bashed (and I'm almost 40) is Cindy Crosby. When you hear other NHL players talking about his crying and his dives, that is an issue. He is good enough that he shouldn't need that crap.

He also doesn't do it. I saw him take a cross-check to the back of the head in Philly last year that sent him to his knees, and the stupid Philly crowd went into a frenzy of name-calling, accusing him of diving when it was obvious he was hit and didn't even fall all the way down. You guys are still buying into Ken Hitchcock's stupid bullshit, even when the evidence is completely against you. But go ahead, indulge this weird Philly pathology--it just makes him play that much harder against you.

Exactly, well spoken. Obviously you are a classy Pens fan. It is great watching the the Cryers self destruct. And, better yet, it is great watching their ignorant fans tear their own team apart when they lose. Loser team, loser city, loser fans. NO CLASS. Enjoy the extended summer vacation watching the Phillies. I'll have fun watching the Pens in the second round. And, to comment to the fool who keeps running his mouth...who knows, there are no guarantees in hockey. If the Pens make it to the Cup, then they have a chance at winning, just like any other team who makes it. Look how the Ducks beat the "unbeatable" Sharks. And, if you are so pro western conference then go root for a western conference team and shut up. All I have to say is...LETS GO PENS!! Making another run to the cup.
