Chicago Blackhawks lose to Calgary Flames

Full story: Chicago Tribune

It looks like this one could go the distance. The Blackhawks staged a dramatic rally from three goals down but came up on the short end against the Flames, falling 6-4 in Game 4 of the Western Conference quarterfinals Wednesday night at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

As a Flames fan the Hawks sure worry me with their speed and scoring ability.

Should have been a hand pass call right before the winning goal, the refs missed it.

Each team has held serve with home ice. I thought it would be a long series, and it will be.

Hawks in 6.

The rally was nice, but the huge rebound given up in front of the net late in the game by Khabi was all the difference. You must smother it or send it way out left/right.

Pulling the goaltender for the extra attacker rarely works. I'd like to see the stat on that and how successful it is (percentage-wise).

2-2 Series, but I still think the Hawks will win it in 7.

Keep the faith. At the begining of the season the goal was simply to make the playoffs. But expectations got raised along the way and the first round just isnt good enough anymore. Rock the joint Saturday night, get the swagger back and return to Cow Town for the kill. Theres a lot of people pulling for the Hawks over here on this side of the lake.

Let's be honest. The Hawks disappeared for a period again last night. It is usually the first period, but last night it was the second. You can not do that in playoff hockey.

I agree with you. The second period was the game, despite the comeback. They came out flat and didn't wake up until they were down three, just as my wall that I threw my remote against.
They have to tighten up defensively! Scoring is not the issue.

I feel that the hawks NO matter what happens really had a GOOD season.I know they have the youngest team in the N.H.L. As long as they learn and grow from this they can only get better, especially if they stay healthy. In the playoffs first time in 7 years, keep taking the steps they need to take in a positive direction for team and fans alike. Good Luck to the hawks this playoff round and hopefully they can go as far as the finals.

I don't think they came out flat. The Flamers just made the most of their opportunities. One goal was deflected off of Seabrook's stick, one goal got through a double screen, and the other goal was a defensive mismatch. I'll admit, being down 4-1 did fire up the Hawks, but I would not say they were ever flat.

I was really hoping the Hawks could make quick work out of these guys but it's going to be a long series.

Noticed Iginla was still jawjacking last night. I wish someone would shut him up.

No need to panic, I said Hawks in 7 in the beginning of the series, that's why we have home advantage:-)

If the Hawks defense is planning on playing the rest of this series the way they played last night, we'll be done in 6 games. You are not going to win many playoff games giving up 6 goals.

Seabrook was awful last night. I believe he was on the ice for 4 of the 6 goals, including the one where he allowed Jokinen to go around him like a pylon and then he tryed to scramble back only to tip the shot past Khabi with his stick. Keith? Not much better. He was lucky that the Flames didn't take advantage of several of his errant passes.

Campbell? This guy continues to amaze me and not in a good way. On the third Flames goal the Flames had a guy standing in front of Khabi. Campbell comes over and instead of trying to move him he basically stood behind him, never laying so much as a glove on him and basically created a double screen on Khabi. Oh, and can anyone tell me if they've been to or seen a game where this guy's shot actually hits the net. In the third period on the power play, he got the puck in the high slot about 20 feet out and STILL missed the net with his shot.

I'm worried because this team self destructed in the two games in Calgary. In game three, Khabi gave up a brutal goal and then the team didn't show up in the third. Last night they were even worse in the 2nd period until pouring it on late to tie the game. However, they stopped doing what got them back into the game and played another poor 3rd period. Considering we didn't exactly dominate the Flames on our home ice, things aren't looking promising at the moment.

What happened to the goaltending in the second? 3 goals on 5 shots on goal? Need to win in Chicago...do not like the thought of going to Calgary needing to win in game 6

I don't want to just fault the D for this game with my previous post. They were bad; however our best players did not show up. Khabi, looked very ordinary last night and gave up a ton of big rebounds. Towes was non existent and his dumb penalty in the 1st period killed the early moment we had with Kane's goal in less than a minute later. Havlat did nothing and was -4. This cannot happen in game 5. If it does ......., well, you know.

This isn't the usual playoff series, for the NHL. Everything is different. The Blackhawks make it different.

I suggested on earlier posts, that to focus on the "media darlings" on the Hawks, would invite some of the other sleepers to wake up ..... LIKE Buff, Versteeg, Kane, Burish, Eager etc. I had (sorry sammy) forgotten about Pahlsson altogether. So, now we have Burish, Eager, Bolland and Ladd laying in the weeds, so to speak. OK, we now have to light them off at home. Not such a bad thing.

Buff played another all out game. He's finally filling his potential. I just like the guy, period. There's no explanation for it, I just like seeing a really big guy who can do something beside plow.

Hey Jack, find another playground. The one marked "Stupids".

I would hope that the kids got a taste of how devastating their attack is, when they're on a roll, and what sustained pressure can do for your momentum. Do the whole game what you did the second half of the second period. You were a machine and it was what I thought was going to be the look for the whole game.

"Q", among other good things, pulled the time-out at just the right time. Wish that momentum could've pulled us throught the third.

Not to worry. Kids got a taste and this is forging them.

"They're OUR kids, damnit!"

This thing very well could go 7 games with the winner being the home team. If it takes 7 and the Hawks win the round, it will be worth it. Got to love playoff hockey.

The Flames are playing the series missing at leat 1 key guy, Reghir. They have one guy playing on one leg,Sarich. Their pain in the butt missed last nights game, Bourque. It seems they lost another guy to an injury last night.
We should be burying them. For those guys on the post that hate Iginla a word to the wise. The guy has no quit in him.He is tough as nails and fearless. He can beat you in the alley or on the ice.His leadership has carried the Flames the last 2 games. He has taken every bit of verbal abuse and as long as it wasn't racial soldiered on.
I know this commentary might make folks think I am a Flames fan but that isn't the case. I am a Hawks fan to the very core but I am also a hockey fan and I admire a gutsy performance.
Big Buff is playing the kind of game we need to beat these guys and he and the other role players just need to keep playing their game until the stars start to click again. We need 20 guys willing to pay the price or we are in more trouble.
Remember the Islanders first cup win over the Oilers. The Oilers had Gretzki,Messier, Coffee,Kurri and still lost. After the series walking past the Isles dressing room Gretz looked in and saw a team that looked like they were ready for the hospital but the cup was in their room. They were willing to pay a price the Oilers couldn't or wouldn"t. If we want the cup skill is important but willingness to do whatever it takes to win will win. We have the skill but we are too soft a team.
I am ready and waiting for the howls of protest from my fellow Hawk fans but guys I a calls it the way I sees it.

Small issue with the article:

"With the Flames' fanatical crowd subdued a bit from Kane's score, Calgary got it going again when Flames' captain Jarome Iginla scored to tie it after one."

Subdued, for what, 67 seconds?
