Jackets take their beating quietly | The Columbus Dispatch

Full story: Columbus Dispatch

Blue Jackets goalie Steve Mason pauses after a third-period goal put the Kings up 4-0. Watching the Blue Jackets play the first 10 minutes last night against the Los Angeles Kings, it was hard to imagine that this club isn't headed back to the Stanley Cup playoffs.

I GUESS I SHOULD NOT CARE IF THE TEAM MANAGEMENT DOESN'T. WHY NOT SIGN THEM TO LONG TERM CONTRACTS FOR BIG MONEY MAYBE IT MIGHT HELP OH I GUESS YOU TRIED THAT ALREADY

Last night was a first for me. I'm a "homer," I own season tickets and generally look for the silver lining even in the darkest of clouds during their down times. But last night definitely was different in my eyes. I joined to "Boo Birds" as the team skated off the ice. That is something I don't normally do. I am not sure I ever even boo'd when Kinger was there or even Doug MacLean.

Three weeks ago, my six year old suited up and went out on the ice for the first time in his life. He had never even skated before. Neither had most of the 20 or so kids in his group. In fact, when they started it looked like none of them would the way they flopped around on the ice. But after about an hour of instruction and learning how to fall and get back up, the instructors tossed a puck on the ice and told the kids to play. And you know what? The kids played with more enthusiasm and determination that day than the CBJ did last night for any one of the 60 minutes they were paid to.

I don't know the answer to how to fix whatever is wrong with this team. But the status quo sure seems to not be the answer to me.

The Jackets are a soft team. They either don't come out playing hard, or as in this game, they come out hard but quit when a goal or two go against them. Down 2 or three after a period (which is the usual pattern), they quit. You could likely count their comeback wins this season on the fingers of one hand.

As I've said before, they seem to think that making the playoffs last year would automatically mean they'd make them this year. Guess what, guys? It doesn't, and you won't. Not at this rate.

If this season finishes this way, we're going to see major changes in the off-season. MAJOR changes.

I agree with John. This team isn't going to the playoffs. They have a better chance of finished deal last. Stop referring to them as desperate.

They are quitters with no heart and no passion, lazy bums that sat on their rears last offseason (I'm looking directly at your Commodore, Nash and Mason especially). They enjoyed reading about how great they were and forgot that it takes work to be great. And now they are the heartless bums that we see on the ice that has basically quit on each other and quit on us, the fans.

So now we reap the benefits of the Andy Geiger/John Mac et al's territorial war of arenas. C'bus is stuck with two half empty barns, 1 that is silent because of comfort and architecture and the other because it houses the Losejackets. Now the CBJ wants to have public money to bail them out. Or what, you'll leave?
I'd rather take a train to Dayton than see a CBJ game, you "seat licence" suckers get what you deserve.

I want my money back for last night's game. I don't know if the CBJ can reach a lower low than last night's 2 and 3rd periods. If I was a scout from another NHL team, I wouldn't take a chance on any of our players. I would fear the cancerous attitude that is inflicting the CBJ. How can Hitch and Howson actually present this group with an upside for the future? It's back to start again!!!!!

Bmw's, Range Rovers, Audi's, and Mercedes Benz to name a few. All vehicals owned and driven by the players, coaches, front office and ownership. They make 200k (a year and up) and they now are seeking assistane from YOU the tax payer to pick up a 12 million dollar a year loss. Socialism at it's best.

Scrutineer - you seem to know nothing about professional sports or economics. It's about competing with the other teams in the league. Believe it or not, our players are not the only ones in the league that make a lot of money. And... get this... good players can sign with the teams that pay them more money. I know... hard to believe. But they can. So if you want a team to be competitive, you have to provide them with things that other teams have, like the ability to sell naming rights to the arena. Don't worry, they wouldn't be charging you for this, and thankfully for all of us there will be no Scrotumeer Arena in Columbus. And before I completely blow your mind with actual facts, get this... the Blue Jackets actually make a net positive impact on the city, county and community. Yes, Columbus schools get a lot of money from the Jackets. Local businesses make money from the Jackets. Lots and lots of people get good things just because we have the Jackets. I know, crazy, huh? But yes, we do need this team in our city, even though they are playing like chumps right now, because having that team provides a positive impact to our community. So should the local and state governments support them to stay here? Probably. They do it for other businesses that they want to keep in town. NetJets got a nice package to stay in town, lots of companies get government help because the government, believe it or not, knows it is in their best interest to keep that organization in its consituency.

Now take a deep breath and embrace your newfound education. You are no longer completely ignorant on the topic you choose to spew nonsense over. And you're welcome for teaching you about government and general economics.

That was beyond embarrasing last night. Maybe if Hitch is offered a dozen krispy kremes for each win he can find a way to motivate. Nash needs to have the C removed, he isn't close to being a leader.

I am very optomistic, so if the Jackets could go on a streak like St.Louis did last year they could get into the 8th seed and possibly make some noise. They need to get something going before the Olympic break though or the season is done.

After watching the pre-game warm up last night, I told my wife that it was going to be a long game. The Jackets couldn`t get it in the net, even in warm ups. True to form, they had the Kings goalie standing on his head the first 90 seconds of the game, but he fept the rubber out of the goal and deflated the intensity the jackets brought with them onto the ice. After that, they were flat. Totally flat.
When the Kings scored their first goal in the 3rd period, I looked at the wife and reminded her about my prediction after the warm ups. As soon as they put their 4th goal in we stood up and left. And we were not the first. We were not soothed one bit as we heard the horn sound as we were outside in the cold, signalling Vermettes goal. Way too little, way too late.
Season tickets may not arrive in the mail next season for us either. Sigh

A fan is a fan, no matter the record. Whether you ove the team or hate them. If you don't like what they put into the game, then quit watching. All your complaining will end up as nothing, as it should be. Just sit back and enjoy the fact that there is something to do, and someone to root for. Have fun at the game whether they win or lose. Trust me, try being a Detroit Lion fan for the last 35 years. They may not win, but most of the time it is fun to get to go to a game, and just watch.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Pisces

Having to bow down to convention or limitations is enough to make you want to scream right now, and you'll do your utmost to rebel in any way you can. Be careful about this because you could easily get on the wrong side of someone who has power or authority over you. It feels as though you're battling with forces that want to keep you under control, and you don't like it one bit.
