13 years ago I watched an interview on TV, it was a hockey players mom. I sat and listened to her, as I was one myself. I felt her pain as she went through the younger years with her son. While parents yelled and screamed at him. Tears came to my eyes and I just wanted to reach out and hug her. As she told her story she was such a nice lady and a very proud mother. Her ending line grabbed my heart. My son is the Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, I would like to know what your sons are doing now. This is what she said to all those parents who yelled and screamed at her son to get off the ice. I was with child at the time and had 2 older boys who played hockey in Northern Ontario. I watched as the other parents would yell and curse at my kids and thought to myself, at least they are trying. Chatted with the boys later to make sure they learn to ignore these kinds of people.
Also while pregnant I got a dog he was awesome yellow lab, we didn't know what to name him as there were 4 of us coming up with names. Molson was popular but I wanted something striking and amazing. I stood up and said his name is Sundin!! My husband said really? I said yes, and Sundin it was. He was a great dog we loved him so much. This past May 1st we lost Sundin as our hearts are all sad we had amazing years with him and we loved him sooooo much!
Then just last week I was online as I don't get the hockey games in USA where I live now and a friend came on and said "Sundin retired" once again i was saddened by what I heard but then again proud of him for all he has ackomplished in his life. He is a great man with a great mother who not only supported him but also made an impact on others lives. Thank you Sundin and your family for all you have done for mine. My boys will always remember you as they will their best friend Sundin also.
Sincerely
Sherry Houston
