Islanders blank defending champ Red Wings

Full story: Newsday

Defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit was poised to become just the third team in NHL history to win 50 games in four straight seasons, and all the Red Wings had to do was beat the last-place Islanders and goaltender Joey MacDonald, a player they discarded two years ago.

How can they say it was a wasted year when he took a regular shift?

Was at the game in Detroit last night. Was nice to hear many in the crowd around me booing their home team. Only the second time this season the Wings have been shut out; the first time on home ice! Saw a couple wearing matching Joel Rechlicz jerseys- relatives? Fans in Detroit are very nice. I never get harassed by anyone for cheering for the Islanders the rare time they come to Detroit. There were maybe 30 of us scattered around Joe Louis.

I go to some games here in Florida when the Isles play the Panthers. usually around 1/3 of the arena is Islanders fans. the Panther fans don't really say anything to us. I guess their to busy trying to learn what icing is......LOL

You saw Wreckers parents :) Howie and Jaffe showed them in the audience and said that they drove 8 hours to see him play. They must have reallllllly enjoyed those 3-4 minutes lol!

They also showed a group of Windsor kids who came to the game to cheer for Josh, and he scored a goal for them! How great was that?

First Islander shutout at the Joe since frickin 1981... ya gotta love it! You were at a rare game history-wise :D

Dam right you gotta love it!!!! My pre-season prediction is fulfilled, 25 wins and 50+ points for the first year of re-building? Not bad at all, next year should be fun!

All this great play and a first overall pick. I believe they will make the playoffs next year. They will NOT win the round.

I was at the game last night. The detroit fans were respectful & keep saying how Mcdonald had an amazing game.
They also said the wings came out flat first 2 periods. The isles defensemen seemed to be in the right position or make a good move. But also I saw detroit make a LOT of wide shots as well

Joey MacDonald was great. I would like to thank the Islanders organization for giving Joey the oppurtunity to play a lot this year. It will help him very much with his new team next year.

I doubt very much that it will be Joey. I hear that he and some in managment do not see eye to eye. I would bet on him moving.

Joey might see the writing on the wall with Danis and may think its better to go that route. Either way, he is a good guy and I like him a lot. He did a good job for the Isles this season, too bad we were such an injured mix of players for this entire season in front of him.

Its not the writing on the wall, its upper management. Snow and Joey do not get along. Like may of the other veterans. Joey will not be back, not because of Yann, but Snow.

Daily Horoscope for December 25

Aries

You've got a taste for adventure today, so you might decide to depart from tradition in some way and make it an unusual Christmas. You're certainly all set for a great time, and you'll want everyone else to enjoy themselves as much as possible. You'll probably eat and drink too much but, hey, it's Christmas! Isn't such excess par for the course?
