Was Ballard's hit low? For Panthers, it was a high in win over ...

Heads down. That is the way so many scarred fans have filed out of the BankAtlantic Center in recent years.

glad two penguin crybabies had it handed to them. bet the annoying pen fans at the game quieted down after the incicent. as it was, it was the check of the year. cats finally showed some sandpaper in their game and it paid off. still a tough road ahead, but the rangers have 3 tough games left.it all starts tomorrow nite.

The Cats could have beaten any team last night. I was hoping McLean would settle the score by plastering Crosby after Sid the Squid's January ambush/sucker punch, but not only was Crosby a non-factor in the game, Ballard cleaned his clock after smashing Malkin with a deadly hip check.

I have said before that Ballard has the best hip check in the NHL. His hit on Malkin was not low--it was a good hit. The Pens fans were quiet at the end of the game, in marked contrast to how loud they were at the start of the game. It was a fun game to be at for a Panthers fan. Large crowd and lots of action.

That was a clean hit, NO penalty was called. It is amazing that when the superstar players touch the puck the refs call everything. I think there is a 10 ft wide no touch zone around these players. It was good to see the refs let a clean good hit go. And the SID the KID wants to fight.

Why couldn't the Panthers play like this against Atlanta??? For some reason they only seem to play their most desperate and best hockey when their backs are against a wall. There still is a glimmer of hope, but one more stinker and these guys can start scheduling tee-off times.

Sid the fraud is a word that rhymes with wussy. Punk couldn't even land a punch. Ballard got at least 3 or 4 good shots in. We need to build off of that game!

Good win. Couple points:

1. Ballard's hit WAS a questionable low hit. When your hands are touching the ice, and you catch the other guy at the knees or lower, it is a low hit. In the speed of the game, it may not be intentional and it was not called, which leads to point #2.

2. Crosby acted like the Captain of that team. That's what a Captain is supposed to do. A guy runs (clean or not) your best player, you drop the gloves and go.
Think he earned a great deal of respect in his own locker room? YES.

3. Ballard did not "win" that fight.
It was a draw.
It was a neccessary part of a high-intensity game.
Ballard did not, Goldy put it "cleaning Crosby's clock". Please. It was a typical non-fighter hockey fight. Lot's of punches glancing off plastic helmets.

4. Steve Goldstien is just utterly embarassing.
Now I know why you guys go to all the games:
So you don't have to hear Goldy's voice.

Clearly, Ballard cleaned Crosby's clock. Even the Penguin fans admit that. Get your eyes checked ok?

Too all the Panther fans, you only wish you had Sid the Kid and Malkin on your team, and to the poster above me, you are correct, "Geldy" as Neil would say is a joke.
Just imagine how good the panthers would be if they held on to their decent players.

That was NOT a low hit at all. I've replayed the video 50 times. Ballard bent way over at the waist but he kept his knees only slightly flexed, which is exactly how a good hip check is done. Ballard hit Malkin way above the knees...the contact was right at Malkin's hip. Ballard's hands were NOT on the ice at all, they weren't even close. If you look at the replay, you'll realize that a fraction of a second before he got hit. Malkin looked down and reached back with his right skate to kick the puck up to his stick. Malkin just never same the hit coming is all. Totally clean hit.

That was NOT a low hit on Malkin at all. You can see in the video while Ballard is bent way over at the waist, he keeps his knees only slibhtly flexed. The contact is made barely below Malkin's hip nowhere near his knees. Ballards hands are NOT on the ice. If you look at the video closely, you'll see that a fraction of a second before he gets hit. Malkin reaches back with his right foot to drag the puck up onto his stick. Malkin just didn't see the hit coming but it was totaly clean.

First time ever a real hockey post from Irvine. So, I'll respond.

1. It was not a low hit. It was a legal hit. You need to learn NHL rules. Ballard has by far the best hip check in the NHL.

2. Crosby is a good hockey player but a sissy fighter. He lost to Ballard. Admit it and get over it.

3. Goldy and Potvin make a great announcing team. Who do you have announcing your NHL games in Irvine? Oh yeah, that's right, nobody.

4. It was a great Panthers win. I was there, you weren't. Great crowd and high intensity play. An excellent game all around.

Yada yada Yada..Low hit, legit hit..
They won, stop all the mental masturbating after each game..
You guys post a edifferent opinion after each game..
Cant you stay with an opinion?
If they lose another game, you guys will put a different spin on it. watch and see.
Bottom line is, the Panthers are an inch from the playoffs, with a better schedule than the Rangers..
9 seasons and one playoff series, not too good..

Please don't pretend Sid is a tough guy...he's one of the top 3-4 players in the league but he's also a huge prima donna. He reminds me a lot of Pavel Bure...who absolutely hated to be touched by the other team. Sid hacks, slashes and cheap shots anyone that puts even the slightest pressure on him. Did he get any "respect" in the dressing room. Why should he...for getting into a fight over a clean hit. Grabbing a guy, getting punched 5-6 times in the head and quickly dragging the guy to the ice. Come on...when Sid takes off his bucket WITH a visor on it, squares up and exchanges some punches that connect for a minute or two...then we can talk about him being a "tough guy".

it was a clean hip check, in today's NHL, unfortunately hitting isn't allowed. Malkin is a big guy, tried to get around so it looked low. As captain, Crosby did the right thing by stepping up for a star player (He's a crybaby, but hardly a fraud, another 100 point season). Ballard won the fight but there was no "clock cleaning". Love the way both Ballard and Boynton play the game (hard nosed hockey and they contribute offensively), we could use more of that as a team.

Darn double posting!! I thought the first one got dumped..

I have to admit...I don't really care for Potvin and Goldie. I do find Goldie's voice annoying as can be and Potvin is constantly Rah Rah about some really minor aspect of the team while the rest of it is driving over the edge of a cliff. In a more "hockey" town these guys would have to call a game with more honest critique of the teams performance.
