Panthers' streak still stoking playoff push

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

The odds are still very much against them. They need other teams to lose and they can't afford more than one loss themselves.

Not playing till Thursday bites. We're depending on Atlanta to break out of their road slump in Philly on Tuesday (and I don't think they'll do it). Washington visits Nashville that night too, and can jump further ahead. Buffalo gets an easy two points from lowly Tampa on Wednesday, and Carolina gets to pick up a pair in Atlanta, too, and could come in at 10 games over .500 while we're just 4 games over. But that's not all ... Washington could be FOUR points further ahead by Wednesday night after another win in Chicago. And then, while we sit idle Friday, Washington gets yet another game against lowly Atlanta and Philly and Buffalo get action, too.

Only if all these games go the Cat's way will they be any closer to the playoffs after another huge win on Thursday.

Winning is awesome but we need Divine Intervention.

To carry over from the other article that seems to have disappeared, Washington is tied in points (with Florida), but has a game in hand and thus is actually a point ahead. They could be four points ahead before the Cat's get back on the ice. And by Friday, they could be six points ahead if the Panthers lose to Carolina - which they absolutely cannot afford to do. I'd like to think this team has at least an 8 game stretch in them. They sure are do for it. We'll see.

[By "actually a point ahead" I mean that they are 5 games over .500 while we are only 4 games over. They could be 7 games over on Thursday, which by my logic would be three points ahead of the Panthers (not 4 like they'll tell you on TV -- because the Panther's will have a game in hand them). If you finish the season at .500, that's 82 points. If you finish at 10 games over .500 (like Carolina will likely be on Thursday when we meet) you'll have 92 points. Get it? If Carolina beats Atlanta, they will come in 6 points ahead of the Cats. If the Cats win in regulation, they'll only be 4 points ahead. By that I mean, the Cats will be 5 games over and Carolina 9 games over. They'd still need to loose for us to catch up. Arrgh. I need to go to bed.

7 in a row!

Man that game was great last night! The only thing that stunk was the sales reps trying to make a goal from the red line and failing... i wont say names but my rep was out on the ice and he looked terriable!

GO CATS GO!

What seems to be your prblem with Olesz? 3 goals and 2 assists in the last 5 games seems good to me. I agree with you on Weiss...Wide open net and he couldn't put it home but he is our best defensive forward and if you put any stock in +/- stats he is a +15.....

Yeah Weiss had an open net. he pulled the trigger and Hedberg made a spectacular save. Did you not see the look on Weiss' face after that stoppage of play. There aren't too many times in a hockey game that a goalie steals a shot like that and leaves a player dumbfounded. Weiss shot that puck immediately without hessitation. Hedberg just made a great save. Weiss has been our best 2-way player, without a doubt.

Anyone who puts down the play of Weiss right now certainly knows far less about hockey than they think they do.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Sagittarius

The rumour mill is especially active, and interesting tales are coming at you from all sides. Don't believe everything you hear: there are people who will start gossip to further their own aims and you don't want to help them unwittingly. Similarly, don't reveal too much of yourself to those who you don't know intimately - keep your own counsel.
