Completely idiotic article. Duchesne is not going to be a number one center. Hedman played in a much weaker Sweden league, not in the tough Canadian Junior League.
You can always find solid defensemen in the 2nd round and further down. You cannot turn your back on the all time leading junior hockey goal scorer. Tavares is far and away the best player in this draft, a pure scorer who is needed by a team with no scoring punch at all. Everyone around the league is putting Tavares down in the hopes of taking advantage of Snow. Leave it to Newsday and their reporters to mention these negative remarks over and over instead of encouraging Snow to ignore the sleights and draft Tavares. Just like Torrey and MR. Devellano did with Bossy. You always have to draft the pure goal scorer first. They are the hardest thing in hockey to find. Garth, draft Tavares and help fill the arena. |

@ "There for all Four"
The 'tough' Canadian OHL junior league is better than the SEL? You have to be joking right? The SEL is ranked only behind the KHL and NHL as the best professional league in the world. The AHL would rank 4th but since it is a North American league it is a better predictor of NHL potential for players. Hedman played as a 17-18 year old against men, on a professional hockey team in a league that is a hair behind the KHL. If you don't know much about international hockey please don't comment on it as if you do. I love the OHL but I would never delude myself into believing an OHL team would stand a snowball's chance in [insert suitably hot locale here] against a SEL team. I find the comments about Duchene to be a bit out there and I doubt he'll get a sniff in the top 2, and the whole 2nd and 3rd picks to the Isles is even more out there (akin to finding a cow that eats rabbits), but picking Hedman 1st overall is by no means a stretch. I'd be surprised if there isn't a pretty even split between GMs in the NHL who think Hedman should go 1st overall. |

""Critics say Tavares is a one-dimensional goal scorer who only contributes at the offensive end from the faceoff circles to the net. He's not a great skater, and he pays only passing attention to defense, resulting in a poor plus-minus rating. Some also have questioned his attitude and leadership and have labeled him a selfish player.""
Sounds a lot like the desciption of a guy named Bossy that 14 teams passed on back in 1977, |
