Langenbrunner Lifts Devils In 2nd OT

I could not watch this game because the game was blacked out on Versus. We have Charter cable which does not carry FSN which was showing the game for "local" market. We are not local to New Jersey Devils. It is ridiculous that Versus blacked us out in our area.

bettman needs sacrificed for not putting enough games on NBC or ABC... he thought versus was the best idea since no 2 line passing.

turns out, more than 75 percent of americans have to pay extra to watch versus.

and screw espn too... they choose not to play hockey at all

The NHL had to go with Versus, the lesser of all evils, as ESPN didn’t want them and NBC was looking to pay next to nothing and not do any revenue sharing. Bateman took a risk in going with a network, if you can call it that, which has considerably less stations than NBC or ESPN, on the hopes that they would be able to grow. It’s a 5 year deal, I believe but can’t remember for sure, and Versus is trying to become a “premiere” sports channel. If they succeed, it’s good for the NHL, if not, it’s back to the drawing board. The biggest problem is the $$$, and no one was willing to take a risk with the NHL except Versus. No one wanted to share revenue with the NHL except Versus. Granted, they don’t televise as many games as one would like in the U.S., but claim to do many more games in Canada. Is that right Dev? Plus, they have taken steps to put together a better studio show, both before and after games, which ESPN really didn’t do. They like the pre-game, but nothing afterward. We had this argument so, so many times with Richard, that I thought everyone has already heard it. I just hope Richard doesn’t see it again; I’m tired of his points on the Teachers Pension Fund.

i agree, that versus is a boost for hockey... but not for its fans when most have to pay more money to have additional channels just to watch some puck.

for 1 week versus was free to everyone... 1 week........granted alot of people didnt know about it, bcause its on channel 12309849392398723... which makes me think... if they are trying to boost hockey... gett a lower #... like channel 8 for me... i dont watch HGTV... put that on channel 12309849392398723

With Time Warner down here, Versus is part of our standard package, so it doesn't really cost that much more for us. Everyone takes this package, because it's the first upgrade above basic cable. It's on #74.
