This does it. Snow needs to start unloading players before someone gets hurt and the Isles lose out on some good picks. I'm sure Weight would have brought in a first rounder. The delay may have hurt the future of the franchise. Time to start moving bodies.

True statement above. Its time to start moving the players that wont fit in. The isles cannot and should not wait till the trade dead line.

I think this is a blessing in disguise. Yes, Weight would have had considerable trade value this year. But these young guys need a guy like Weight next year to provide a veteran presence. The guy can still put up good numbers (more than most of our young guys will be able to do next year),and I think he more than proved himself this year already.

I agree. Comrie, Sim, Tambellini, Pock, and DiPietro are just draining the team of monies it could use to lure big name players.

The Islanders do not need Big Name players. After the players get to the NHL, They have the skills they require to be in the NHL. The rest is between their ears. The Mental part of the game is the biggest part of this game. The players can all shoot, skate and hit very well. Even the crappy 4th line 4 minutes per game players are good players. Confidence and a break can be all the difference. Attitude, Mental toughness and PHYSICAL FITTNESS separate the MEN from the BOYS. You never see the best players in the game, any game, out of shape or over-weight, pardon the pun.

Yea great point Canadian Hockey Fan. Hear that all you Isles fans? Tim Jackman can be a 30-40 goal scorer like Ovechkin and others if he just gets it in his head that he can be that good. They are all equals when it comes to talent, we just need to get tougher mentally. I'll make sure Gordon relays the message to the guys in time for tomorrow's game.

at this point all the veterans on the team should be trade bait. weight should have been given a lighter load same goes with guerin and comrie so they dont get hurt. weight may be a fine player but he is not getting any younger and expecting him to produce next year is wishful thinking we need draft picks. on another thought what does anyone think about claiming avery off waivers so the rangers dont get him isles get him for half price for the next 3 plus years and rest him until next season then we get the #1 pick plus avery next year?

Not a bad thoughthealy35.I think that we should unload Comrie,Sim and Tamby as a package. We could get a 6th and 7th round pick for all of them, and still come out ahead.

No Dougie Weight for six weeks? That's it! I am NOT using my Newsday coupon for discounted tickets, hot dogs, cotton candy, autographed Ice Girl glossies, ownership shares and a surplus "Drive For 5" bumper sticker. LMFAO!

classic - Neil Smith must be thanking the heavens he did not get involved in this mess. Instead of the Drive for Five it is going to be the Drive to Winnipeg

Seriously, who is the Islanders conditioning coach, Jessica Simpson?

The sheer # of players lost to injury, as well as the amount of time these players are out is sobering at best, mind boggling at worst. Are these guys so brittle that the slightest bang is an automatic 4-6 week injury? Are the Isles lifting weights in their weightroom or twinkies?

How come you don't hear of the Anaheim Ducks reporting Ryan Getzlaf or Corey Perry or Chris Pronger out for extended periods of time? Or the San Jose Sharks saying Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau or devin Setoguchi will be out 4-6 weeks with an injury? It's almost to the point where the Islanders either have arsenic in their water supply or Denis Potvin sticking pins in voodoo dolls.

Forget the arena, forget Garth Snow, forget Charles Wang. FIRE THE ISLES CONDITIONING COACH! Let's face it, if a blind chimpanzee was the conditioning coach, would the Isles really be worse off than they are now?

What hurts is that Weight could've been traded for a good solid prospect/young player or a decent 2nd round pick at the trade deadline. Now he joins Mike Sillinger appearing at Islander Team stores at your local mall signing autographs & meeting with the booster club. What a wasted opportunity.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Pisces

Family, friends and in-laws are all hard to please. It is better to please yourself for once, dear Pisces, than to bang your head against a wall. You need to relax and get in touch with your own feelings. Do not hesitate to speak up for someone you care about. Someone may try to curtail your freedom. Set them straight and do not give in.
